Litmus test will be asking for a letter from bmwna that there are only 700 serial edition models in the world. If they won't provide that, then I think we know the answer. I've been assured by someone who theoretically would know within bmwna, that everything not allocated to customers will be crushed.

I doubt BMW would ever respond to that request.

It does not surprise me that BMW has gone over their allocated production they did the same thing on BMW 1M with a few friends of mine who asked for more cars and BMW built them over the promised allocation commitment.

It was never a numbered car so this gives manufacturers the ability to produce them as long as they are profitable.

They would have to sell 10's of thousands before it becomes profitable for BMW M

I agree with the fact that they likely need to sell way more than the ~700 units they have advertised to recoup the total NRE and marketing expense for the GTS. However, I seriously doubt that only the manufacturing cost of a single GTS is above the MSRP. So any GTS produced above the 700 does bring profit to BMW (which would lower the loss of the entire GTS program, if loss there is).

Maybe 1280 would do it, maybe 2120 would suffice.. point is, this car was not built for profit reasons. When BMW talks profit the number needs to stretch far past raw cost. Otherwise it is time wasted when money can be made elsewhere.

I don't even want to start speculating on the break-even point for the GTS program. My point was simply that any additional GTS produced will more than likely bring additional profit to BMW. Period. Is it worth it to them? I don't want to speculate on that either.

But I fundamentally agree, the point of the GTS program was never about profit, but much rather around marketing and brand image. However, I am not sure they are entirely succeeding at that based on the overall press reviews.

In the end, the hardcore enthusiasts are the lucky winners here .

FWIW, after not being selected to receive a voucher I expressed my dismay at not being included by sending an email to BMW USA just to let them know I wasn't happy, especially after being a long time customer, I still, own my very early build 95 M3, my 95 M3 LTW, a 2014 M4, a 2008 135i, as well as an 89 M3, a 91 325 iX and an 89 325 iX. I also had and sold a 2001 E46 M3, which to my twisted way of thinking meant I was somewhat committed (or so I thought) to the marque. Received a response basically saying thanks for your letter, but you are SOL. I guess the response translated to when they are gone they are gone, tough s***. Based on that response they were sticking their guns. It's possible there were more made for press cars, demo cars etc. After seeing factory drivers beat the bejesus out of them they may be very well used up and I doubt they would offer them for sale, so what's the answer, I don't know, but I am sure an answer will eventually surface. The happy ending is my dealer had a voucher holder bail on a black sapphire metallic GTS, so on Monday I collect K57888 at sticker, my faith has been restored. Amen, Fran

yep that is me lol. need the cash to buy a used gt3 and trade in to porsche center so they can give me a .2 gt3 in manual!!!

Its really too bad auto west is giving allocations to ppl who don't even appreciate these cars and only wants to turn it into a profit for a Porsche.
