F80 Track wheels in the car/trunk? Can it be done

For an F80, can you fit a set of 4 wheels and tires in the car to get to the track? Is there enough space in there?
How is it done? Back seats up or down?

Yes, there is more than enough room to fit 3 in the back seat and 1 in the trunk.

When I would transport my wheels I would remove the rear seat and sit the wheels upright in the indentation of the body. They fit in there well and didn't roll around. I'd fit 3 across and 1 in the trunk laying down with a full size jack, parts, chairs, and a carryon suitcase or 2 depending if someone came with me.

F82 with the rear seats down - I fit 18x10, 18x11, floor jack, chair, tool bag, 2 tool boxes. I do push the passengers seat all the way forward.

When I ran a square 275/35R18 setup on 18x10 wheels, I could fit the four standing across on the unfolded rear seat (I used to do the same in my E92).

However, with my new 18X11 wheels shod with 305/35, they no longer fit across. So I now lay the two 275 flat on the folded rear seat. One 305 resting against them in the trunk and the second 305 on top. The main drawbacks are that it uses some trunk space and that it limits rear view when driving to and from the track, but it work perfectly fine.

NOTE: I have an F82, the rear seat may be a little wider.

A little trick, I fit my floor jack in the storage area under the trunk floor (where the useless M-Mobility flat repair kit usually resides). That frees-up a fair bit of trunk space.

I also carry a portable tank of compressed air. Great for quick top offs

I think I got all four of my nitto nt01 275/18 standing up across the back. I had my seat slid up just slightly more than. I would've liked but not bad by any means.

My buddy crams his Car with a mind boggling amount of stuff. One thing he does to protect the inside is he puts his wheels in the Tire Rack storage bags. Also makes them easier to handle.

I've seen YMB_M3 's pal fit 6 R888 in an F80 after a Buttonwillow track day

I put 3 18X11's with 305's across the back with the rear seats folded down and use the child tethers and a tie down strap to keep them from moving. Lay the 4th one down in the trunk. Jack and tool bag fit in the trunk.

We bought these 4.5 years ago for my wife's track tires/wheels and I just bought a set last week for my new track tires/wheels but I only paid $42.95. The Amazon price was also in the $30-40 range a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why the price fluctuates so much on a fairly niche item.

The reason I went with these is simply that buying from Amazon.ca, I paid $50CAD shipping included and I did not need to pay any duty/brokerage fees (Canadian site) as opposed to buying from TireRack (which added up to over $100CAD ) .

I have those but they get filthy and dirty pretty quickly - also, after 40 days of use, they tend to get ratty.

I'll knock on wood, mine are holding up rather well. But once they're shot, I'll just get a new set. $50 is worth it to save on cleaning that Silverstone interior .

If you're able to or choose to fit your track wheels in the back seat, either three or all four, this may be of interest to protect your back seat. My wife bought the original Rumbi Baby Bench Seat Protector because she saw it on an Amazon lightning deal for $20 or $25 bucks last year. She used it for the last couple of track events and it worked great. Prior to this she used a couple of old beach towels, but it can be tricky keeping them in place while loading the wheels. The Rumbi Baby has a couple of padded "anchor tubes" that get pushed between the upper and lower back seat cushions and solves this problem.

Her E92 has adjustable rear head restraints, so she also uses two adjustable hook straps, hooked to the outside post of the right and left side, run through the hub opening of the wheels of the wheels, and hooked together in the middle. The wheels are placed with the inside barrels towards the center (extra storage space if you need it!). The strap gets cinched down pretty tightly and keeps the wheels from shifting during turns on the way too and from the track. She also uses a couple of old beach towels and our ground tarps on the outside of the wheels to pad the space between the wheels and the side of the back seat.

I recently used it to transport my new track wheels and tires home from the tire shop after the tires were mounted and this worked perfectly in my M4, although there's no place to hook the strap hooks due to the integrated design of our rear head restraints. The Rumbi Baby also has straps that go around the head restraints to hold it up and this worked on our integrated rear head restraints.

There is a new version of the Rumbi Baby for $58.95 (Amazon Prime) that has a zipper that will remove the center portion so that can be used with a center console if necessary. With the zipper, it might not hold up as well as the original version: https://smile.amazon.com/Bench-Prote...protector&th=1

The original version is only sold through 3rd party sellers on Amazon Prime for $34.95: https://www.amazon.com/Bench-Seat-Pr...+by+rumbi+baby. I just ordered this one. (Disclaimer: not my kid!)

If you go to the Rumbi Baby website (www.rumbibaby.com) you can get a 25% off coupon (-$8.74)if you provide your e-mail for their mailing list and then confirm it.

There's also lots of other rear seat protectors on Amazon designed for kids and animals (sometimes the same thing) with various features so you can pick one that might be better suited for you. The original Rumbi Baby has worked perfectly for our uses to that's why I ordered another one for my car.

Just had my first track weekend with my new track wheels and tires.

I was able to fit all four of my wheels vertically in the back seat. Front wheels went in the middle and the rear wheels went on the outside, with all barrels towards the middle. I used the Tire Rack/Kurgo Tire Totes to cover the tires and I used the Rumbi Baby seat protector that I posted above to keep the back seats clean. I used some old beach towels for padding on each side to keep the wheels from shifting.

Front wheels and tires are 275/35-18 Nitto NT01 tires on Apex EC-7 18x10 ET25 wheels, rear wheels and tires are 305/35-18 on 18x11 ET44.

Both front seats had to be moved all the way forward to place the tires in the back seat, but I was able to put the driver seat in my normal driving position (I'm 5'9" tall).

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures!

Edit: added photos of tires in the back seat that were taken at a later event.

I bought it too.

Another thing that I have done when transporting wheels is to place them in drum liner bags. This is especially helpful after the track session when the wheels are full of brake dust. I then put the tire totes on to make them easier to carry.
