Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic Module

Anyone else get a letter for the Fuel Tank Diagnostic Module (NVLD) for a warranty extension to 10 years/120k from BMW? Just curious what it is and what happens when it fails.

Got mine yesterday. Seems if it fails within the stipulated miles/years, BMW will fix, if outside cost is on us.

I got one, but I have no idea if it's valid in Italy, since it was forwarded from my old US address.
