Most Heat-Resistant Exterior Color?

I have a Jet Black E90 and it is killing me in this California heat! What is the most heat-resistant color offered by BMW? I figured it would either be White or Silver. Would the metallic flakes help reflect off the heat?

think they taught this in elementary school... darker colors absorb more heat/light from the sun... lighter colors don't..

White is the most heat resistant. Silver wouldn't be far behind.

Black would be the worst - absorbs the most light from the sun (hence heats up more).

Don't forget about your interior colour as well. Makes a big difference.

Plus BMW now make a heat reflecting leather - an option on the convertible.

White reflects the most light of any color offered by BMW or any manufacturer. If you travel to any tropical country, you'll see the most common color is white, and black cars are pretty rare.

I have a black on black 335XI, I know what you're talking about, I took my car down to Houston, Texas and had the boys from NASA put some heat resistant tiles on the car...it looks much better now...your other alternative is to spray it white with Krylon.

The tiles gave my car a whole new appearance...it really commands the road, attached is an image of my car sitting in our garage...let me know what you think.

+1 on some dark tint. Should help quite a bit. Also, there is always the system to vent the hot air, but that only really works for work when you're leaving at a specific time.

Besides white and silver, maybe arctic.

For those of you who have Montego Blue, is it heat resistant or heat absorber?

Depends, do you have iDrive? If so it's under Parked Car Operation in the Climate section. Check your owners manual in the climate control directions.

They tested this on an episode of Mythbusters. The black car turned out to be 15 degrees F hotter in the cabin at it's peak vs an otherwise identical white car when left under the sun all day.

What also helps is holding the unlock button before you get in the car which opens up the windows/sunroof to vent out the air before you get in.
