Is this happening to you? (Step Owners)

I have an 08 step E92 335. When I am in manual mode and punch it in M1 I'll shift myself to M2 and then at around 4500-5000 RPM the tranny automatically shifts to M3.

I don't tap the shifter more then once, so it's not me shifting to M3. This only happens once in a while, and only when going WOT M1>M2 and then halfway in M2>M3.

I can't replicate it to the dealer since it happens once in a while.

Anyone have this happen to them?

Sorry If you don't understand, I'm not good at explaining technical stuff.

Do you take it to the rev-limiter from M1 to M2?

Are you engaging Manual mode while in D or are you doing it in DS?

manual mode in D will do this, while DS usually stays in the gear selected unless your RPMs drop below 1.5k-ish. Also, in D, if you don't mess it with it for a bit, it'll switch back into Auto

Never happened to me in Manual mode. Maybe yours is defective.

This never seems to happen to me, I have a 6MT. I thought the automatic was for those with special needs who can't shift for themselves, so it is working correctly.

It happens because you're shifting the car and it's shifting itself. If you're trying to redline every gear, don't touch anything. If you shift at redline that's one shift to second, but the car will also shift itself because you hit the redline, meaning the second shift into third.

It is in DS mode. I don't let it shift at redline, i shift right around 6500 rpms.

It's not kickdown mode either because I have aftermarket brake/gas pedel with extended bolts that won't let me kickdown( I like it this way).

I did this few times because I shifted to M2 near redline. Computer shifted before I did, and I shifted again at the same time, so gear went to M3.

but if you are talking about 4000rpm........ you got a huge problem there.

It's not a big deal, only happens maybe 3 times a month.

+1 I'm gonna avoid the dealer as long as possible, for fear of the new progman.

M mode, you control the shifting.

DS mode, it shifts automatically, but quicker and more aggressively then normal D. Also in DS mode, it only goes up to 5th gear.
