First Post, First Wreck...
Hey guys,
So i've had my 335xi coupe for about a month now, and I love it more than anything. It took months to find a used XI just how I wanted it, and I have been lurking around the forum for a while, and I have really learned a lot about my car. I was pleasently driving stopped in traffic on my way back from the tint shop, and what happens? A woman in a toyota prius behind me playing with her cell phone decides to not pay attention to my brake lights and rear ends me. I've attached a few pics for your enjoyment...sort of... In short, i've wanted to mod the car, but at only the age of 18, money has made things tough. The car was a (very generous) gift from my father to me as a college ride, and I really love the thing to death. Looks from the damage that the exhaust is bent, the rear bumper is toast, there is deflection damage on the passenger side fender, the left brake light has one bulb out (warning light came on after the hit), the right brake light does not sit flush anymore, and my heart is broken. The damage got me to thinking though...Maybe an M-Tech bumper? Maybe a Dinan Exhaust? What do you guys think? How do I get a hold of the M-Tech 335xi bumper in America? Opinions? |

oh shit bro, that sucks. looks worse than it probably is though.
+1 on the mtech bumper but the Dinan exhaust may be pushing it. i dont think insurance will buy you a $2000 exhaust to replace stock... good luck and i hope it gets back to you soon! |

Here's my advise: Have it appraised at a BMW Certified body shop and send the appraisal over to the lady's insurance company. Ask them to cut you a check asap. Then you can buy whatever you want for the rear end. It'll probably be enough to cover a new M-Tech butt. If the exhaust is damaged, you can get those replaced too. However, ask the shop to check and make sure that there's no further damage upstream of the mufflers. Since you're in Maryland, don't forget that Tischer is having special on the Dinan exhaust. As for the M-Tech rear bumper, since you don't have PDC, you can contact RRGOO7 for info on how to get one.

Irony is something unexpected happening. A dumb women on a cell phone who is driving a Prius is something I would definitely expect. Also, it seems most of these rear-ended threads involve female drivers. (I know both of my incidents did)

Dude, I got into almost the exact same accident as you. Only thing was I didn't have as much damage.
Tips for you: Make SURE they align everything perfectly before you take the car from the body shop. Sorry to see it. I went through everything you are going through now a year ago. Good thing my car is fixed (not to my 100% satisfaction), but its good enough. |

so how much diminished value would that come out to with a moderate damage to rear end on the carfax?

Suggestion to the OP, don't go to the body shop until the car is done, you don't want to see what is about to happen to your car. As to diminution of value, don't waste your time. |
