Talking DID YOU KNOW THIS??!! (Aluminum Trim)

I dont know if this is a repost, Obviously I wasnt aware of this piece of info and i havent been following the forum for a while..
SO i just wanted to share..

So I had to be at the dealer for something small, and my SA offered me a car wash (sure, why not). While I was waiting for the car, I swinged by the Parts Dept.. In our 3 series accessory catalog, there is a thing thats called the "seat-belt holder". I was always curious about how it works because my aluminum trim is dented from the metal part on my seat belt (when you unbuckle) So I decided to order it, its 30 something for a pair (driver's and passenger's) (if anybody is curious, i can look it up, but of course, thats not what this post is about )

so I went back to chat with my SA for a bit..
And I asked him, Do you know how those seat-belt holders are supposed to work?
What do you mean? He asked.
Oh because the metal part of my seat-belt kept hitting the aluminum trims, and now they are dented. And I wanted to see if the holders are going to prevent that. I answered
.... Show me. He said. (wasnt sure what I was talking about)
so we walked over to the car and he checked it out.
Oh these, you def. need to replace that. He said
(Definitely?! are you sure thats the correct term?) I was worried for a moment there. cos I am NOT paying for that! i mean, thats why i went and got those seat belt holders in the first place, right?
So as I was processing this information..
He said, Well, I think you should get a new pair, they are covered anyways..
WHATS? COVERED? u must be kidding!
YUP, they are under your warranty. he said

SURE, go ahead and order for me!
(and thats exactly what happened)

who knew.

SO i guess for those of you who cares and are bothered by your dented trims, its good to know that you can pound on those and just get a new pair later on

Just my lil two cents* go warranty!

i thought this was fairly standard?

on my merc ml, the dealer replaced trim parts that looked worn out even tho i never mentioned them. like my armrest and d-pillar looked beat up for whatever reason and got them changed out for new ones. what im interested in is what explicitly is NOT covered under warranty.

I guess its the fact that seeing ppl selling all kinds of trims on the forum blah blah blah, and gave me the impression that they are expansive, who knew. (Having the dented trims reli made me thought abt changing to CF trims, but now, the thought of that is diminishing. not saying that CF trims are not worth it. And Of course this is only for ppl who have aluminum trims originally)

I actually feel quite spoiled now, if you know what i mean lol because theres really nothing wrong with them, they are just a lil dented.. BUT it will make my car look brand new again HA
SO i guess for those of you who cares and are bothered by your dented trims, its good to know that you can pound on those and just get a new pair later on

wow good info!

My car is white and you can still see swirls (albeit not as bad as black) in direct sun lights...this is why I've always request the dealership NOT to do their courtesy car wash...they always give me the "What" look.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I guess I will go get my trim replaced a little before the warranty runs out.

I'm usually careful and release the seatbelt slowly when i exit my car so my trim never gets dinged...but there are 3 nicks on it that is kinda annoying, probably the times i was coked up didn't remember to let it go slowly...gonna punch it some more and get trim replaced...good to know, thanks..

Never knew that, thanks! Pissess me off how easy that stuff dents and scratches. How often can you replace it? I only have about 8000 miles and it looks like I have had the car for two years.

You would have to ask BMW about that. I think its because its a trim piece that can wear out. As an example if your leather on the drivers seat becomes very worn from the way you sit/drive the car most car companies will NOT give you a new seat under warranty so I think this has something to do with it. The OP is very lucky with the dealership that does the work on his car. They may just be doing it for him for free even though they may have to pay for it themselves just to keep a customer happy which is always a great thing to see. I sell BMW's in NJ and to me it seems like you have a nice dealership that is very professional and helpfull. Be glad for that.

Is it only the alum. trim that dents or are the wood trims also capable of denting.

Either way, good to know warranty info. THX

I'll never figure out why i'm apparently the owner aluminum owner that hasn't dented his trim like that. Yet there's a spot on the front passenger where it looks like my trim was keyed in a 1 inch line. Go figure

one thing I don't understand is, if the car and such parts are under warranty from the BMW company, do the dealers for pay any of it themselves? or does it go back to the Co in Germany? what's the deal? I don't see why the dealers need to do anything to avoid warranty-covered claims.. can someone explain? thx
