Introducing the BMW VISION M NEXT!
![]() Introducing the BMW VISION M NEXT! Videos: Official launch film: Vision M Next Design explained: BMW VISION M NEXT. Highlights. • The BMW Vision M NEXT shows how the future of the BMW M brand might look – in the form of an eye-catching electrified sports car. • Power PHEV drive concept – with an electric motor at both the front and rear axle – enables pure-electric rear-wheel drive and pure-electric all-wheel drive (to keep the car glued to the road). In addition, a powerful four-cylinder petrol engine can send power directly to the rear wheels. Maximum output of 600 hp provides 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in three seconds. Future-proofed urban driving thanks to electric range of 100 km (62 miles). • BOOST+ mode provides extra power at the touch of a button. The car alerts the driver to the ideal moment for BOOST+. • Focusing on the driver: Intelligent technology in the BMW Vision M NEXT – based on the D+ACES (Design + Autonomous driving, Connectivity, Electrification and Services) building blocks for the future – turns the person at the wheel into the ultimate driver. • The BMW Vision M NEXT demonstrates the potential of BMW’s “BOOST” experience concept in creating the ultimate active driving experience. It represents a conceptual counterpart to the BMW Vision iNEXT, which showcases BMW’s “EASE” concept and encompasses all the experiences available when the vehicle assumes the task of driving. • Exclusive world premiere at the #NEXTGen – a new standalone infotainment platform for personal mobility “made by the BMW Group”, including regular events. • BMW sports-car DNA: Design elements like the low, wedge-shaped silhouette, gullwing doors and distinctive colour concept are future-focused references to the BMW Turbo and BMW i8. • Colour blocking: Front and rear sections are finished in matt-neon Thrilling Orange, producing a vivid contrast against the exterior’s otherwise silk-matt Cast Silver metallic paintwork. • The front end presents a confident and modern interpretation of two classical BMW icons: the kidney grille and four-eyed front end. The debut application of innovative Laser Wire light technology provides a striking light design. Large air intakes and a front spoiler made from recycled carbon bring a racing-car aesthetic. • With its two-tone, horizontal segmentation, the rear end accentuates the car’s width. Rear lights with Laser Wire technology frame the rear end. The pair of BMW roundels – with a modern, two-dimensional twist – reference the BMW Turbo and BMW M1 and appear to float within the rear lights. • The fluid sculpturing of the interior merges the driver and car into one. The integrated seat shells – in a foam material with shape memory properties – provide excellent comfort and optimum support. • The BOOST Pod is the interface between driver and vehicle. It unifies all control options and information on three visual tiers directly ahead of the driver. The first plane is formed by the horizontally arranged steering wheel featuring two small displays. The second plane is a Curved Glass Display, which is making its debut appearance and stretches around the steering wheel. The full-surface Augmented Reality Head-Up Display in the windscreen constitutes the third plane. • Focus logic represents the next stage in the progression of BMW’s signature driver focus. The information displayed adapts to the car’s speed. The higher the speed, the more focused the information and the more it moves into the driver’s direct field of view. • Innovative mix of materials: woven synthetic fibres in Midnight Blue with a distinctive look and feel akin to leather, titanium with a warm, shimmering tone and painted surfaces create a modern and luxurious ambience. Judicious use of Thrilling Orange contrasts injects additional sporting flair. • Visionary Valet Parking Service: A concierge is on hand when the driver arrives at their destination to take the vehicle, park it and bring it back again at the desired time. All done simply and seamlessly using the MyBMW app.

M1/i8 crossover
Looks like a crossover between an M1 and an i8.
Could be very hot if they ever make it.

Yikes, kinda looks like a student project trying to design a Lambo or something. Maybe it's just the two-tone throwing me off. I will say, I'm glad this concept did not join the kidneys together...gives me hope for the future. If BMW wants to make their grilles bigger/more distinctive, this is the way to do it. Have them float over the "mouth" to make them stand out. They don't have supersize them and make them crazy tall like in the iNext. Also, the lit roundels in the grilles are a nice touch.
![]() I really like how they sculpted the grilles here without any chrome border or anything. |

Looking through the concept car bits (f.e. lack of side mirrors, small driving lights, the multicolour exterior et.c.), I imagine a production version of this could be a stunner.
Also nice to see them bring back elements from the M1, such as the BMW roundels in the rear lights and the side gills behind the rear windows. Eager to see what becomes of this! |

The only thing certain is that it won't look anything like that and that it will be a huge letdown.

"BOOST+ mode provides extra power at the touch of a button. The car alerts the driver to the ideal moment for BOOST+."
I'm willing to bet this is spin for "this is the button to press to temporarily override the 2022 EU-wide speed limit restriction." Note how it says "the car alerts the driver to the ideal moment", aka, "hey, you're doing under the speed limit and there isn't a car in front of you, boost available"... maybe I'm just being cynical ![]() |

Ok. Sooo...I understand that BMW is a global company, focused on growth, revenues and happy stakeholders all over the place. I know that the automotive industry is going through a difficult time right now. BMW should evolve as every other major company and they do. I see that there is no space/time for a "romantic" look in the mirror. Global companies can't rely on accomplishments achieved in the past.
But...as a lifelong fan of their cars and heritage, motorsport tradition and driving dynamics: The current developments and changes within their company sadden me. Their decisions to withdraw from traditional motorsports and allocate that budget to Formula E (I mean, who really gives a sh*t about this series?) is heartbreaking. To see that their LeMans cars (I know BOP) and the M6 at the Nordschleife 24h (even with a better BOP) were both absolutely not capable of keeping up with the other manufacturers is devastating. BMW once was a name that was linked to Motorsports before all others (besides Porsche). Nowadays it's just sad to see the current programs where BMW has some cars in. Same with the cars and their social media/stakeholder activities. BMW M was always a "family" which valued its customers and really relied on their feedback. There were special events and a lot more. Today, BMW only invites social media "stars", "car collectors" and some folks who have nothing in common with the typical BMW M driver/customer. The design strategy of the cars is getting worse - BMW is not listening to longtime customers and is just focused on growth markets. Again, I understand that decision from a corporate perspective, as stated above. BUT, I think it's not my brand anymore. When I look at AMG, Porsche and even Hyundai with their N series, it's mind boggling how BMW M is changing so quickly to a company that I don't affiliate myself with. As I heard about the Vision M Next (or whatever stupid name it has) first, I knew exactly what was coming. I knew how it might look and what it's about. I am not even excited anymore. M always was a bit more hardcore, focused and driven than other brands. That is - unfortunately, not the case anymore. The whole disaster with their OPF transition for the European M cars and the way they handled customers when they took delivery of a 100k M4 C that sounded like...yeah, like nothing is devastating. I am still so disappointed about that whole nonsense. AMG, Porsche and all others are sitting at a table with customers and finding solutions - BMW M just tells us this is the way the regulations are and they are not able to do anything about it - yeah...right. Maybe this is not the right place to tell this story and maybe some of you think I am a bit dramatic. I am - but only because I am saddened by the fact that this brand is developing into a company with good revenues and happy stakeholders - but sad customers who were into Motorsport and the heritage of M. You don't need to agree with me, but there is nothing that change my mind. And to be honest, I haven't even started pointing out all the things that bother me.

I try to be positive, yeah, the big X5/7 grills will be ok, new 3 series is good...
But good god this thing sucks, as mentioned, it looks like a college concept design. Here’s what I see, a Contach rear end, Huracan motor lid, door intakes from an aventador, and then a special ant eater front grill with two pieces of extra triangle aluminum stuck on the front (which would never make EU crash tests). C- only because the wheels are ok. |
