Diagnostic BMW problems

Hello everybody, first of all thanks everyone this forum helps me a lot.

I have question about diagnostic of cars. Once car is bought fro auction (and it is in my country already), what's the best way to check internals ? I mean, Engine/Gearbox/etc. I mean internals, which is vitally important during buy of the car which already passed 50,000 mile. What's the name of this process ? Some.people is saying "listen engine*, is it enough ? It is sort of unbelievable for me.

How you are doing this guys ? What's the name of this process ?
