Voiding warranty concerns

Hi, so I have an aftermarket warranty for my f83 M4. Will mods like cold air intake, single midpipe, and catless downpipes void any part of my warranty? I know that having these mods isn’t going to cause any damage but if something unfortunately breaks can the warranty company say that those mods caused the damage? Thanks.

They will do whatever they can to get out of paying you. If you have a warranty, I would only go completely stock mechanically wise.

Yes. They’ll try almost anything to get out of paying for a claim. What are mileage/year terms of your warranty? Do you have a good relationship with a service shop? A good relationship will always help because they’ll go to battle for you with a warranty company but that’s not always enough.

Plenty of posts of warranty claims being denied for a lot less than engine mods. Read your warranty terms and conditions. You will find the verbiage to be heavily skewed in their favor. This is why a rarely go with extended/aftermarket warranties.

Dang. It’s a 3 year, 30k mile warranty and it’s over around July 2025. I don’t really have a good service shop near me, I’m assuming BMW won’t fight for it.

Also, is it the service tech or the service advisor that I would want a good relationship with? Because without the tech, the company wouldn’t know about the parts, but the advisor is the one to ultimately tell them, so which is more important?

Lol. I have good relationships with both. I think it’s typically the tech that ends up battling with warranty companies to justify the need for the claim/repair.

Just like an indy shop, BMW dealers/techs have to argue with warranty companies to get work repairs covered.

Yes it is written into most warranty contracts. Also, some warranty companies send out an inspector before approving a claim, especially for larger claims.

I’ve always immediately after the purchase installed a full exhaust, suspension, diff with shorter FD, and brake kits. Tune is the only thing I wait to install until after warranty expires. I’ve had no warranty issues with BMW going back to my ‘03 e46 M3.

I’ve got several cosmetic mods, entire bavsound amp/speakers/subs, midpipe, and Dinan ST2 piggyback and just had my car in for oil pan gasket and rear axle seal at the dealer. Warranty approved everything over the phone, $6100 (quoted) job. Now those mods have nothing to do with the jobs performed, but I’m sure if someone wanted to be a dick they could try to deny me based on having modified the car. I think it depends on your warranty company and the service advisor.
