BIMMERPOST

Hey guys, as some of you may know, fellow forum member Donnie (M3SQRD) has been battling some major health issues. He has shared some of this publicly already, but it stems from some serious abdominal complications arising from prior spinal surgery (he’s already undergone about 10 procedures for the spine alone). Following those he has had numerous abdominal operations already with portions of his bowel removed, has required receiving nutrition intravenously (not by mouth), and has ongoing issues with symptoms related to intestinal blockages. Prior surgeries have led to temporary relief, but it’s a catch-22 situation as the surgeries themselves can promote more scarring between the intestines that can then lead to more issues with blockages, the need for additional surgery, etc, in a vicious cycle. He requires another abdominal surgery that will impose an $18,000 out of pocket expense. The cumulative medical bills over this years-long saga have racked up considerably, and it’s becoming a real struggle. He’s not been able to work since 2021, and his long-term disability benefits are ending in a few months. Donnie’s been parting-out some of his BMW stuff to fund the surgery, which is how I learned the details of the situation.

I can certainly attest – as I’m sure many others here would – that over the years Donnie has been very generous with his contributions to forum members publicly, through PMs, and more recently the unofficial forum Discord server. This is particularly true for those of us who like to drive fast on a racetrack and want to learn how to set up our car’s suspension to extract maximal performance.

If there’s ever a situation where we could work together to help out a fellow member and true enthusiast, this seems like it would be it! I’ve started a GoFundMe for Donnie, and am really hoping many of you will consider donating what you can. I’ve made a contribution to kick things off. Particularly for those of us who track our cars and have benefitted from Donnie’s knowledge in any way, please consider contributing generously. Consider converting one budgeted future track day registration fee to a contribution. If all of us did that, we’d take a big chunk out of that expense!

Here is the GoFundMe link:
https://gofund.me/7353487b

And finally, for obvious reasons, please socialize the link in whatever way you are able. I wouldn’t have the knowledge/ability to do what I’m doing with my car now without the shared wisdom and knowledge of people around here. Hopefully we can maintain that kind of spirit and all pitch in with our wallets too! Please join me. Thanks for considering.

-Jason

M3SQRD is definitely someone that inspires through his perseverance of this hobby, and makes use of his engineering background to better help community members with car setup advice. A DM to him always gets a detailed response with his opinions and facts. Though he might have a strong personality, it's something that's a crucial part of these boards - you really won't find someone who not only spends this much time interacting and helping, but also providing genuinely helpful material.

Best of luck to Donnie!

Always appreciate the willingness to share quality information. Talked a bit offline about some of this and glad that we can help out a little.

Such a tough thing for a person to go thru and great to see the community band together. Speedy recovery and best of luck with the next procedure, Donny.

This f-ing country man...can't even take care of its own people, it's so sad. As a boarded doc, I'll be the first to say how health insurance is such a scam here. Seen so much suffering and death because insurance refuses to fill meds, etc. for one reason or another smh. *End of rant*

He provided some great advice on what to check for when my coilovers started to clunk. He's also been schooling me on suspension setups which I greatly appreciate.

Happily donated.

His situation saddens me greatly when I heard about it a few months ago. He has been by far one of the most dedicated people in this forum, and he's been nothing but a treasure trove of information for everyone here. Healthcare and disability benefits is just such a headache in this country, and I'm glad people are stepping in to cover the gaps. I intend on donating soon, wishing all the best!

If you look at all the advice over years that you can access immediately, you’d save a bunch of time and money not making mistakes. Easy to pay some of that back.

Wishing him the best.
