Service Light - State Inspection?
I'm brain-dead right now from the stress at work, so please bare with me on this question.
My service light with the little car icon has come on. It no longer shows milegage and simply indicates 1/2009. Is this due to the fact my state inspection is due this month? Or could there be other reasons? I plan on getting it taken care of this weekend. Will that reset this light, or will I still need to call to set up a appointment? Thanks. |

Which service light? The one I just attached? If that's the case, then the dealer will perform whatever service is required and everything will be reset accordingly.

Last month was 1/2009. It was still counting down mileage because you weren't overdue yet. This month, you're overdue, so it's red. Yes, make an appointment. It'll all be better afterward, I promise.

Yes, your car does know when your state inspection is due. The dealer programmed it in there. I had the same thing happen and took it to the dealer and they said its for the state inspection. At some point, when you first bought the car or when you had your first inspection, the dealer programmed it in.

Ah, those crazy dealers. What else have they programmed in there? How do you know if it's service or a federal, er, state inspection. It would drive me knuts. What is a state inspection anyway?

Anyway, probably annoying in most states as you can see the month of expiry for the inspection on the windshield. |

Interesting. My sis's 07 530xi just went in for an emissions test and the car didn't say anything. We got a letter from the MVA.
