Sunroof tint....Bad idea?

I just found out that tinting your sunroof can cause it to crack & shatter. So I'm going to go back to the tint shop and ask them to remove it. Do you think they will give me a partial refund.... I paid $40.00. Shouldn't they have told me it could shatter from excessive heat?

if anything, the tint should protect it.... if its external of course... but i just remembered, that tints are always internal, so that's a stupid thing to say.

on the off chance that they did the tint on the exterior of the car, then it would benefit you. Sunroofs only shatter from rock chips and imperfections caused usually by shit flying on it. The tint would act as a shield against foreign objects.

I think the man at the tint shop will attempt to insert a socket wrench into your ass if you ask for a partial refund. Sounds like complete BS to me.

Just had mine done by a tint shop that's been around a long time. If it was a problem, I'm sure they've been notified by countless pissed off people with shattered sunroofs here in S.Florida.
Did the dude that told you that sell you any of the stuff he smoked?

Partial refund?

The job is done, they're not gonna remove it for free. More hassle than it's worth for a $40 job. You should have done your research before you had it done.

...Though I will say this sounds like complete and utter BS to me.

Put Shattergard tint on the sunroof, then it won't blow out! Hell, probably offer better protection than the factory sunroof glass that has been known to blow out on its own....

You gotta be kidding right? You ask for something to be done and now you don't want it so you want part of your money back? I hope you never come to my place of business.

the guy that tinted my car said the same thing when I asked about tinting mine. I didn't get it done. I figured that I would just close the cover if I didn't want the sun in on me.

Just an FYI, I have had friends warn me not to get the sunroof tinted because it could shatter. I even tried to push my local tint shop to put it on but they said that they can't due to customers sunroofs shattering, they didn't want to be held responsible. I had called around to other tint shops to see if this was legit and the majority wouldn't do the sunroof for the same reason. Don't know how it happens but apparently it does happen.

I asked to tint sunroof and the guys told me that they won't do it. The glass in sunroof differs from the windows. And it can crack while beeing tint (have you seen the process? they use hot air guns to make the right form of film)

You should've done the research before going to the tint shop. Just leave it on. If it cracks, you can try to blame it on them.

man, that's like eating lunch at McDonalds, and coming back two days later asking if you can get a partial refund, because you heard that fast food is bad for you.
