BMW and Volvo together as one?
BMW is reportedly interested in buying out Volvo.
Autocar says BMW seriously considered taking Volvo off of Ford's hands earlier this year, going so far as to request financial data about the company. Click here to continue to BimmerPostBlog entry here |

That might make sense. Since joining the Ford family, Volvo is in serious danger of losing their long earned reputation for safety.
On the negative side, I hate to see BMW over diversify and run the risk of ending up like the other congolomerates....

This this could be a good thing. Different markets, but both companies have an engineering focus.
And thankfully Ford did not do to Volvo what GM did to SAAB. |

volvo's are decent cars, its better than them buying out Ford..... (i know that would never happen), but i mean like what mercedes did when they purchased chrysler.....
what a mistake, 90% of chrysler drivers think they're driving a benz.... |

They might buy Volvo and leave it alone...have them as a seperate entity, yet owned by BMW. Engineers and designers may then be more able to continue the traditional Volvo design...but of course a portion of the sales would go to BMW.

As long as BMW doesn't get into something that makes them bleed like what they had with Rover.
But I'm not a Volvo fan

Volvo is a good company with a long earned reputation for engineering and safety design. I'm sure the bean counters (with fewer beans every day) would love to errode that. If BMW were to buy them and let them run themselves as before, it might be a nice thing. I'm sure Volvo fans would prefer that.

I don't think it makes sense for BMW to buy a company that sells products that directly compete with theirs. I believe that was part of the problem with the Rover acquisition. Mini and Roll Royce complement the line instead of competing, so they're working out well.

Volvo also has a commercial truck division. This might be an opportnity for BMW to enter the commercial markets which its currently locked out of. I think this is the play.
