Salt Trucks hitting your car with salt!
For those of you that in the live northeast or where ever it snows, salt trucks suck big time!
Was driving all day yesterday and got hit a total of 3 times with a salt truck. One time I was parked in a plaza lot just in my car messing with my phone until I hear a sound that sounded like a bunch of pebbles thrown at my car, only to see a salt trucking go by me. The other 2 times the salt truck was on the other side of the road but the machine that sputters and sprays salt out from the back of their truck is so strong it just shoots feets away hitting my car on the side. Geezes christ...if the salt isn't bad enough already, I'm already paranoid if it caused any paint chips or dents on my car, haven't seen any yet. Oh well. |

I friggen hate that - rock salt is worse than stones as it is sharp - does most of the damage to the front of cars, way more than stones in the summer.

Sigh
Located in PA. I was on the highway a month or so when it "snowed" and I am coming up on a PennDOT truck, dirving in the MIDDLE of a double lane bi-pass throwing salt everywhere... Of course I keep my distance but am still getting salt all over the f'in place... now a line of cars/trucks is starting to form behind me and people are starting to get pissed... I let one guy past me and he squeezes past the salt truck by half driving on the shoulder - of course SPRAYED with salt all over his '92 kia or whatever. PennDOT guy finally realizes he has a line behind him, so he moves over yet still is throwing salt, I backed off and MASHED the gas to pass him... still got salt EVERYWHERE on my car... I HAD to wash my car that night, no questions asked. long story short, F-U winter and salt that just rust out our cars

Driving around a salt truck is definitely not the most pleasant experience but still better than venturing on unsalted icy road. What I normally do when it happens to me is to stop by a coffee shop and take a 10 min break. It helps me avoid the salt truck and warm me up also.

Sounds terrible. If I lived on the East Coast, I'd get a clear bra for sure. Only thing I have to worry about here is avoiding 18-wheelers. Their mud-flaps don't do a good job a lot of the time and kick up pebbles. But I guess everyone has to deal with that...

I will not pull up beside you at a light, I'll hang back, BUT, if you can see what I am doing (flashing lights, big keep back sign etc) and pull up beside or try to pass ME at an intersection, yes, you will get sprayed. What do you think I'm going to skip an intersection because you put yourself there? LOL I won't even start to vent about people who try to pass truck plows and get stuck on the windrows, or people who pull up inches behind large loaders and then get backed up onto, or people who race to get past the spreader between lights so they don't get sprayed, and then spin out onto the boulevard. Sometimes it's funny, and sometimes it's annoying, depending on whether I have to stop what I'm doing. If you had to work on the street in bad weather, you would appreciate there are a lot of morons out there. Not saying every equipment operator is perfect, put generally speaking driving for a living makes you attuned to things most people are oblivious too. In short - STAY CLEAR OF SNOW CLEARING EQUIPMENT! They are trying to make you safer. |

Down here they don't use salt. They use some sort of sand mixture. My poor front bumper is literally sandblasted.

Worse than the salt is what also comes along. My coworker and I had to visit a site 3 hours away, multiple rock hits to the glass and two cracks. One vp was laughing that my coworker should have made me drive so the cracks would be on my 335.....

The trucks in MA just gently dump it out the back. I'm not originally from the North East so my snow driving is limited. Having an Xdrive car I figured I would be ok (and I am) but its definitely for the other drivers out there. Yeah it sucks getting my car washed once a week but I'd rather pay for that then someone sliding into me.

They are just doing their job, but can they really not think of a different system that won't damage our cars? I swear driving here in the northeast is an obstacle course year round. So tired of it already.
