BMW M has held workshops revealing some technical aspects of the M3/M4.

Why? We've said all along that it would feature approximately same HP, but around 100 lb-ft more torque (in range of 395 lb-ft) than the current M3.

Assuming 3,400lbs, that's a weight to power of 8.0 lbs per hp. Looks like will not be trampling on M5/M6 straight line performance.

Doesn't mean a whole lot until someone dyno's it. Will this be a classic case of BMW under-reporting the HP numbers? You can bet on it!

Exactly what this site has been reporting all along.

I was always left scratching my head when guys would pull the 450HP number out of nowhere and say thats where it would be at.

Pretty exciting news since its been mentioned the car will weigh less than the E9X M3!

Less weight and more power? Whats not to like!

Obviously a $70k BMW M is not supposed to beat a $120k BMW M in straight line performance. Porsche does the same thing with the boxster/cayman and the 911

Thanks for the info. I'm withholding judgement until I see a dyno graph and a curb weight figure.

I like it since I'm hoping that these relative modest power numbers indicates two IMO much more important things:

1. The weight is in the lower range of the rumours.
2. Big effort has been spent on keeping throttle lag to a minimum.
