3.0! Still jaw-droppingly gorgeous all these years later. What a beauty. Thanks for sharing

This is the best looking BMW coupe EVER to my eyes, and it's "dated" as hell.

It's probably older than most of you posting, that would be my guess.

Oh, and to all the people that complain about the "lights touching the grill" and the "straight hood line" on some of the F series cars, learn your history! (Yes I know the straight hood line cut on the new cars is a pedestrian safety thing but still!)

I can't count how many times people have told me my M4 is the best looking car they've ever seen. I also would say it's the best driving, handling, accelerating car I've ever owned. I still don't really know what fit and finish means, I think people like to parrot car magazine-speak. Fit? You mean how the panels fit together? Yeah because so many people notice that. Finish? The paint holds up better than any other car I've owned. There is no car within 20k than can touch the M in terms of looks, performance and driving pleasure.

This +1000

The E9x and E46 generations looks dated by today's standards, especially the E46, but I still think both generations are great looking.

I find the E9X to be the least attractive of all M cars. Slad sided. Awkward.

F8X one of the best designs ever. Pre-LCI2.0s look a bit long in tooth now to me with their bright chrome lights and rear light bulbs.

Agreed. Before I bought my F80, I did a ton of research on every other car in the same price range. Every other car was heavier by several hundred pounds, and weren't even in the same realm of good looks as the M3, not to mention the all around performance

Fit and finish is a little vague but it encompasses what you said; fitment of panels and paint evenness. I would also say it includes how well all the components come to together from a design perspective. I think the F80/F82 has the best designed interior of all the previous M3s. The seats are amazing feeling and looking.

The paint however, is the worst paint I've ever had on any car ever. It's incredibly thin and chips so easily. BMW also doesn't paint in areas you don't normally look; like under the hood, trunk, between the door jam and fender jam, etc. BMW's paint is literally embarrassing now. Since most of their cars are leased now, BMW doesn't seem to really care how long their paint lasts.

I don't know why but the E92 shape has always seemed more pleasing to my eye than anything after it (even the E90). As others have said, the bumper covers on the F8x are to much I think and the hood and trunk to high, where in comparison the E92 looks small and low. I think that won't age well.

To me I think they go,
E46>E92>F82>E30>E36
E46>F80>E90>E36
E46 vert>E93>F83>E30 vert>E36 vert
