Journal Entry 012: Exterior Personalization - Grilles, Gills, Reflectors, Engine Cover Hard to call it "personalized" since most M3/M4 owners go this route, the exterior goodies arrived from IND today for this build. M4 is starting to look how it should have come from factory. Items installed iND Painted Engine Cover - Austin Yellow Metallic iND Painted Front Reflectors - Austin Yellow Metallic iND Painted Key Hole Cover - Austin Yellow Metallic BMW F32 Performance Kidney Grille Surrounds - Gloss Black iND Painted Trunk Badge - Gloss Black iND Painted Side Markers - Gloss Black As one would expect, paint quality from iND is exceptional on all the pieces. The Engine cover really makes it pop under the hood. The kidney grilles are BMW Performance F32 4-series pieces, in which the rings are separated from the new grilles and easily installed onto the M4 slats. Installation Completed She's starting to come along nicely. Next up: Performance.

Journal Entry 013: BMC Air Filters Some BMC Filter action before trapping to the dyno. Cotton-gauze filters such as BMC or K&N allow the engine to breath easier while gaining a few ponies. The paper filters were chucked aside, along with the charcoal liners and a new set of BMCs installed in their place. Installation was covered in detail on our DIY here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1014235 Installation is relatively simple, about 30 minutes. While gains are minimal on a relatively stock engine, these will be prove more beneficial once more performance parts are available, such as tunes and exhaust. A bonus is a mild amount of turbo spool noise during revving.

Journal Entry 014: Baseline Dyno With the minor touches covering the exterior at the moment, it's about time to make sure our M4 performs as good as it looks. Baseline numbers need to be established in order to properly measure gains on parts being installed later. We will also be datalogging as well, to capture other points such as IATs, Boost Pressure, Spark Advance and well as AFRs. Other items such as oil pressure/temps can be monitored on the Awron display we installed earlier. Some items can be measures via the OBD port, with exception of Boost, which requires an analog signal. Since we'll be clocking many runs on this platform, a 1/8" NPT fitting was tapped on the charge pipe for measuring. Images Dyno Results: Baseline - 91 octane Results are as follows with a peak 415whp/411lb-ft TQ (STD) on 91 fuel. STD SAE Conditions Dyno Results: Baseline - 100 octane After a few baseline runs were established, some 100 octane was added to see if there were any gains with little to no change in numbers. STD SAE Conditions Now that baselines are established, time to have some fun.

little to no change in numbers but smoothed out the curve a little at lower RPMs, to be expected.
could you post the uncorrected numbers as well? I can back calculate them from the conditions if you don't have the data. thanks guys, leading edge with information on this car for us owners (well, soon to be owners ) |

Thanks. I got the cloth but then found out that choosing exec package would give me free leather but it was too late to switch. Car is already built. Wasn't sure since I've not seen cloth in person yet. Any advice on maintaining cloth? This will actually be my first car ever with cloth in it lol

Awesome thread so far. Also taken back by the Irvine C&C rules. I'm moving to Orange County next week and wanted to go to the next C&C but since I have an M3 they won't let me??

I really like the stock 18" wheels. Makes me wish I got them instead of the 19". Sidewall ratio is perfect, as is the deep concave in both front and rear

Journal Entry 015: BMW M Performance Aero Package Big day today, BMW M-Performance Aero arrived ahead of schedule. Instead of installing 1 or 2 pieces, we're going all in and installing everything on the long awaited the BMW M-Performance Aero. Having seen, handled and installed a lot of aftermarket parts, this has to be some of the best quality and designed pieces we've seen. All parts fit perfectly with the M4's contours with no visible gaps, even for the most scrutinized types. Extra bonus on the M4 since there isn't a spoiler requiring removal like M3 (and previous models). Simply put, BMW did their homework and knocked it out of the ballpark with these pieces, raising the bar for aftermarket to measure up to. Items installed
Preparation Installation Completed The end result is simply fantastic, going from aggressive to downright menacing in the matter of a few hours. The carbon weave really pops against the Austin Yellow finish. Might look into painting the lower lip Gloss Black and wrapping with clear film to make it match with the other exterior trim. Otherwise, our M4 is really coming together nicely.
