Oh.. Interesting. Thanks for explaining. I see what you're saying. Cops have their radars on or in some standby (active) mode most of the time even when just patroling the towns and not really measuring speed. I guess at night it would really light up and alert the cop. In most states radar detectors are legal but I know that can be a nudge to pull you over and find something wrong with your driving.

Thanks for everyone's help with this installation, it was a breeze with the help from the pictures. Now what programming features do you use to reduce the false signals on the V1?

I started reading up on some of the radar forums and I was going to start by turning TMF on.

Wah, it looks like you are also in NJ, so what programming do use on the V1?

Thanks again.

My programming is "On". If not that, then it is "Off"

Does your car have the Tech Package? If so the rear radar guns in the bumper will set off X band almost continuously. You need to turn POP off on the V1and it will stop.

I didn't turn off POP. I just turned off the Traffic Monitoring and the blind spot detection doesn't trip up my V1 any more.

I have the executive package, the drivers assistance plus, the lighting package and the adaptive suspension, but so far nothing has interfered with the V1 yet.

This.

Plus, less of the "your speed is xxx" signs set it off now

I see. I need to have the software updated on my V1 as I don't have the most recent installed. Turning off POP has worked for me currently but when I get it updated I'll do the same as you. Thanks.

Every time you buy a new car, budget $100 for the V1 software/hardware upgrade

Big save with the V1 this weekend. Came around a corner and without warning, the detector lit up for about 2 seconds. I hit the brakes as soon as soon as it started, but I figured he had me given how quickly he flipped the radar on/off. Sure enough as I pass him he pulls out and as I get ready to pull over, he goes after the car that had been trailing me for several miles. I was quite surprised (as was the other driver, I am sure).

This was in a rural area, so Waze didn't have anything.

Good write up. Thanks!

I ordered the Savvy today and then had a thought- did I read somewhere that installing a JB4 stage 2 and using certain maps will interfere with data logging from the ODB port? Am I correct on that and will this also give problems with Savvy on the ODB port?

Trying to get it all sorted before my M4 arrives in a few weeks.

Concealed Display vs. V1connection LE

I am looking to purchase a Valentine V1 and have a couple of questions. Do you really need the Concealed Display if you are going to get the V1 Connection LE? I figure the V1 Connection LE would act just like the Concealed Display, so wouldn't that be redundancy?

The only issue I have with this installation is that by wiring around the a-pillar, you are basically slinging around the side curtain airbag. The best way to avoid interference with the airbag is to remove the a-pillar cover and make sure the wire is placed in the other side of the airbag. A small extra step to ensure safe operation of the airbag.

Did you try mounting in hud? Could be cool although wouldn't it read backwards (may not matter)?

I actually tried this. Orientation-wise, it works because the arrows point in the right direction. The problem is, you can't see see them during the day because they aren't bright enough. Also, you lose the ability to mute it from the remote display.

Hello All,

I have 2015 X5 and I have done the same setup as the OP in this thread but my car alarm is going off when I lock the door? I have done this same setup on my E70 X5 and there wasn't any issue before.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in Advanced.

Unfortunately no idea...what speed do you have the Savvy unit set for? I assume this behavior stops when you unplug the savvy unit?

Hi and thanks for your reply. My speed is set at 35 mph.
I think there might be something wrong with my OBD causing the alarm to go off when I lock the car.

1. Savvy setup worked fine with my previous X5 (E70).
2. When I plug in the Savvy setup with my radar, the V1 turns on fine but started to alert in 2 or 3 K bands.
3. When I set up withe V1 with a regular "coil" type wire via Cig lighter outlet, the V1 is quiet and behaves normal.
4. When I plug in the Savvy to the OBD (without connecting it with the V1) and I lock the door the car's alarm goes off.

This leads me to believe that the OBD might be faulty on my brand new X5 with only 200 miles on it!

Sounds like something funny with the OBD port...either new feature by BMW or like you said it's faulty somehow. Do you have blind spot detection? If so that's what is setting off your K band...try the cigarette lighter adapter to power it with the car on and see if K lights up...if so then you need to program the V1 to turn on traffic monitoring filter.
