He said something about a David. I wasn't sure if it's someone at his dealership or someone from BMW Canada, but I've heard that name a few times and I think he's the BMW Canada guy.

Bit of a side question, does Canada operate on the dealership allocation model like the states do? Or is it something else all together?

He's from BMW Canada. For your build, its still a little early to get a production number. Don't worry, you are in good hands.

Canada operates differently than the States do.

Can you do ED when you lease a BMW? Does it make a difference in the payments/offer they give you?

From what I understand, you can lease, and it makes no difference in the payments. I am leasing my car and I don't see a difference in the process.

The difference that I've found is if you lease, you can't extend your stay in Europe. 2 weeks is what they give you and that's all you got. With a finance or a purchase you can extend the insurance up to 3 months.

Also, keep in mind your payments will start when you take delivery in Munich. So you will make a couple of payments before you get your car in Canada.

In the past I asked Mercedes Canada about European delivery and they asked to pay the car in full months before delivery!

With leasing you lose 1.5 month of payments it seems....

but the experience gained during a ED trip is priceless and far outweighs that added payments.

James told me today that BMW Canada contacted BMW AG for my ED dates, and awaiting reply.

Am I getting way too excited about this? I am so bored with our Mini lol. I'm almost tempted to walk to the insurance agency this morning to insure my Miata to drive to work because the weather is so nice.

Nope. Your trip will be even better then you are hoping it will. Just make sure you give yourself some time to absorb the city and culture before you grab your car. It will make the experience that much better.

Agreed. I would ask for an afternoon pickup time as this will give you most of the day to take in the Welt and do your tour. I got a 4 pm timeslot and it worked great.

So I have a ED date confirmed on Sept 11, and will most likely leave Vancouver on Sept 6th.

I also have a production number but my research shows me I can't do anything with it. I can only start tracking in Canada when my VIN shows up?

My production number is 9021003

Even if you have a VIN, there is not much you can do with it.

At M4_GTS's suggestion, we booked all our flights with Lufthansa after much arguing with the wife, because AC was a few bucks cheaper.

A350 all the way!

Not traveling business haha. I wish.

Looking at accommodation right now, and some of the smaller towns have practically no choices.

The seat doesn't make up for the shitty service on AC flights. I never fly AC internationally, much rather fly on Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Eva and other skytrax 5 star carriers...

So I found out that you can extend the insurance on ED for leases as well. I read it used to be that you can only keep the car for a max of 14 days in Europe when on a lease.

Does anyone knows do you have to have the car insure by your own insurance company after taking delivery of the car in Europe? My Delivery is scheduled on June 11 and the dealer wants to get the car insure by my insurance company here in Canada as of June 12. Does it make sense? I don't even have the car in Canada yet, why would I be paying insurance for it??

You don't require insurance on your car until it is registered in your province which will be done once your car arrives in Canada and undergoes inspection etc.
