Yes I think you have to have your smart plugged into the car via USB and also have the APP installed and active on the phone.

No..the Xenons have the same features just listed differently in the CAFD files from the LED package. I coded all of these features on in my current F30 with the Xenon lights and it is very cool.

The headlights do all kinds of craziness.

I've got software installed on my laptop and cable ready. I want to try one simple feature to code. I read that there are some features can be coded without a token. Is that right?

Also, is this F30 coding tutorial applicable to F8x? Thanks.

EDIT: Actually adding the video

This is true but you need auto hi-beams feature (camera) for this to work with xenons. F8X auto hi-beams only come with lighting package so that eliminates the xenon ability for us...at least US spec cars that is.

oh yeah you're right.. i completely forgot about that.

So basically you can code the same functions but only half would work. I rarely turn the the auto high beams on now but even with them off you still get some of the functions just not the tunneling and the function that turns off the different beams(left or right)based on traffic conditions.

you can only do VO coding without the token which honestly doesnt give you a lot of options. You can do the enhanced BT and some other things but really most of the main things you see on the all of coding threads is done using FDL coding which you will need a token for.

To answer your question... a lot of the F30 coding will apply to the F8x but there will be some small variations on certain functions

I'm not quite sure about that. I don't have lighting package on my car so I don't have the ability to test light functions.

If you have the coding software you should be able to VO code and then make the required FDL changes. It will atleast give you the decoding variable light functions (horizontal adjustments) which dont require HBA. There are a ton of guys over on the F30 forums without HBA but do have Xenon and they atleast got that part out of it. Below is from the F30 side

If you remove 5AP you get "horizontal" glare-free, not the full deal, but you can code the shutter and and whatever else is needed to get full anti-glare adaptive xenons (if you have all the camera pre-requisites and assistant tech)l.

8S4 -Decoding of Variable Light is available in the USA.
"The light distribution is automatically adapted to the speed when you have adaptive headlights. The city light is active as of a speed of less than 50km/h (30mph). The motorway light is switched on at a speed higher than 110km/h (68mph) after approximately 30 seconds or as of a speed of 140km/h (87mph)."

it depends. Im not really sure what all they do at 1200 mile service but normally they have to do a software update in order for it wipe out your coding. Its possible they could have found some things to correct via updates since this is the first year of production but again im not sure. Maybe one of the other members has more info on what is actually done on the 1200 mile service.

While they do activate launch control during break-in service none of my other coding got affected. I did not test launch control during my break-in so I can't verify if it even was disabled to begin with.

Great info. That should help a lot of people out when it comes to making the decision to code before or after 1200 mile if they are paying someone to have it done. If you do the coding yourself you can just re-do and not have any financial impact.

I tried coding this variable light function but the values did not match up with what you posted above:

Variable light distribution Yes FEM_BODY 3073 C_AFS_ENA nitch_aktiv aktiv - This line did not have aktiv/not aktiv, instead it showed something like F020 disabled, F030 disabled.

Variable light distribution Yes FEM_BODY 3073 LUT_FLC_FORWARDLIGHTING_Y 9C 9C B0 9C 9C 9C - This one did look as shown above.

Any ideas?

Does it show F030 enable? If so select that one. There may have been a change to the terminology on the newest software that i havent seen ye but I will hook up my laptop to my car when i get home from work and see what i come up with as well.
