996 GT3/RS was a faster car on track and about equal in a straight line with a GTS despite being about a decade old at the time.

I'm also willing to bet like the m3 GTS this car won't even be able to hit 186 mph.

your assumption is wrong. one is a purpose built series production sports car and the other is an extreme version of a road (luxury sporty sedan) car.

its also going to be notably less expensive at 100k, so its much the same as the pervious c63 black series rather than a 911 gt3.

that being said I'm very interested to see what it'll be like, pricing included.
Both are 2 door coupes built to haul ass on the street and at the track. Both will presumably have a similar power output and price. Both are German-made and with similar refinement.

Can't get any more similar than that.

Wasn't the previous M3 GTS around $150k?
Errum... They're going to be different cars. This will be an M car built for a non-GT buyer (i.e. core M buyer). The GT3 is a class-beating Sunday racer.

If you don't believe me... What has four wheels, a steering wheel, 7 speeds and is made in Germany? A MB Sprinter Van or M4 GTS. Similar, am I right?

I hope it comes with Navi, Comfort access, B&O and rear sunshades. And the parking sensors. I will take one.

If they can convince Getrag to go through the expenditure of new ratios in the DCT, maybe the base M3/4 will also get the benefit .

IMO, a shorter final drive will not get you much. The problem is in the gear spacing IMO, something a different FD will not fix. 1st gear is already useless on the base F8X, a shorter FD will only make it worse.

If the M4 GTS sheds 100 lbs (which is what I assumed would happen), then it will weigh 3,480 lbs, which is closer to the GT3 weight than the Black Series.

Nope. I assumed there might be little to no difference in power.

M4: 425 hp
GT3: 475 hp

M3 GTS received a ~7% power increase over the standard M3. If we apply the same to the current M4, we end up with ~455 hp. Yep, that would be little difference in power. Who knows, could be more than 7%. Or less.
It should be interesting in a straight line most 3rd party sources have the 991 GT3 weighing in around 3,26x lbs
http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...ick=welcome-ad http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/specs.html
If the GTS gets 500HP and drops 100 or 150 lbs it could be close in acceleration.

Wasn't the last gen competition package released before they had the last gen GTS out? Perhaps something similar will happen with this generation. Time will tell.

would be interesting to see what happens if BMW comes through with an M4 that is as focused as the z/28 but with 500lb less weight and DCT

Hm I just heard from a pretty reliable source that the US version will be toned down from the EU version.

Yes, because we need things like bumpers with reflectors and roll-cages are a no because racecar.

The GTS will be a big front lip, lowered suspension, fancy seats, marginal weight reduction, marginal power bump, badged to death, limited edition to death and overly priced for the sake of being sold in the US.

Hope I'm wrong.
