I know I certainly would not have ordered SO based only on a photo, but seeing on in person was all it took to get me hooked. It seems that I'm always sticking my head into my garage just to look at it.

It was a really ugly color and nobody wanted it

It got too much YouTube fame and BMW decided we need more dull colors so people would stay on the road.

I never understood the hype so I'm not really fussed about it being gone. But all the SO fanboys can claim their cars are super rare now so that's cool!

According to the survey, 34 of 412 forum members got Sakhir Orange on their F8X - doesn't seem like hype.

"Hype" as in the people that got them REALLY love the color, which I don't understand. Not hype like "we have such a great color coming!". Maybe they sunset the SO to add yet another white in the pallet? After all, you can't have too many whites evidently.

I told a BMW NA marketing guy one time that BMW doesn't need to print their paint brochures in color, because all they offeref was shades of gray, white and black. He told me that was because that is what sells

I also wouldn't have ordered it without seeing it in person, but I saw it at Historic Le Mans last year in France and knew it was the color I wanted, since I typically shy away from the white-silver-grey-black shades (as good as they look, I have a thing against our roads looking like a black & white movie), and I found the blue too "baby-blue" after having had Laguna Seca for 10+ years, and yellow didn't do it for me.
I'm not even a fan of red hues, but this color really comes alive in the sun, with so many different shades coming out. It looks like a different color in every setting, which is something I love in a car (same with LSB).

So true, but for an M, it's nice to get something a little different. Personally I never understood the infatuation with AW and MW for the M3 and M4. There isn't anything wrong with white, but I am surprised at how desired and popular they are.

Then somewhere along the process, I saw one in person and noticed a few more pics that were much better, and suddenly I loved it. I knew then that there wasn't any other color for me. But it's kind of funny how it definitely wasn't love at first sight, lol. I do understand how it might not be everyone's cup o' tea, though. It's a definite "statement" color, I think.

So with the new LCI info, unless something shows up as a surprise in the near future, it seems SO is totally gone?

Truly a red-shade is needed for the F8x, no?
