Interim dyno results - Mosselman MSL65-80 turbos - Initial runs with pump gas and E85

Ok yall.. the INITIAL results are in for the Mosselman turbo installed, with Cary Jordan tuning.

These turbos are EXTREMELY strong, smooth and have run flawlessly thus far and clearly have a ton of headroom left at this stage.

- PLEASE READ FIRST -
1. Massive tire slip on every run, so torque is actually underrated a bit. Nothing we could really do about it at the time. Warmer tires on later runs helped but were still an issue throughout. Combination worn rollers and need different tires to hook that kind of power.

2. This was a 92oct pump gas run first on a nearly empty tank, then 5gal of E85, bringing it up to E65 registered in the tank

3. My stock HPFP absolutely falls off a CLIFF after about 6400rpm running E85 (I was reading E65 on the BM3 sensor) with every run. Cary did an amazing job working with that, but its clear the HPFP needs help to get really serious on E85, so we dialed the tune back for now. There is clearly significant head room with proper fuel support.

4. These are interim results for E85. Pump gas is dialed in essentially perfectly, but E85 requires more changes to accommodate the fuel, which is likely in the future with HPFP and EU5 injectors.

5. I included the best stock turbos, custom tune run for reference, so you can see the improvements.

Custom S2 Mosselman turbos with pump/flex fuel tune from Cary Jordan, on a Dynojet at CarbConn in Kirkland WA
92 octane RWP averaged STD corrected - 588.12
92 octane Torque average STD corrected - 484.09* (serious tire slip throughout)

E85 RWP averaged STD corrected - 632.35
E85 Torque average STD corrected - 573.78 (still some tire slip)

So for comparison:

3/11/2021 - full stock OEM tune
RWP averaged SAE corrected - 403
Torque average SAE corrected - 466.85

3/17/22 - E85 custom tune with new turbos
E85 RWP averaged STD corrected - 632.35
E85 Torque average STD corrected - 573.78

Juuuuust a little difference..

Awesome results man, and yet another great informational video!
And speaking from experience, once the EU5's and HPFP's are in it'll be an absolute game changer

I appreciate that thank you! I am working on it.. while pump gas is perfect, and I likely will RARELY run E85, I would love to finish out the build with HPFP and injectors. (maybe LPFP as well)

Crazy thing is I was waiting on kies motorsports to show his dyno numbers from these turbos, I wanted to see how they compare to pure turbos

Keep in mind his numbers are going to be MUCH higher considering the fully built motor.

It's clear though at least for me, these are very strong capable urbos.

This is great. Now I'll actually have another vehicle to compare to since I was planning on dynoing there too.

My full build is in my signature, if you would like to compare piece by piece.

Looking forward to seeing your runs!

Need to get the car first. 😅 Both car and mods in transit next week. Bend Calibration Ecutek with flex. Plan is PS2+ and likely EU5 and Dorch soon, if not right away.

Dorch and EU5 are absolutely now on my radar to finalize the E85 tune

Unless you have already ordered. I STRONGLY recommend the Mosselman turbos. Plus I hear Pure is months and months backlogged where MSL is not.

Any updates? I just seen Kies Motorsport video and they made over +800whp and 700plus ft lbs of torque! Not bad for bolt on turbos. I know he's on built motor but still impressive for another bolt on option.

Yup.. final tune dial in is done for both map1 for flex fuel and full direct injection. Map 2 is port injection and full E85. Details are in my linked signature, but map 2 is 745/640 and map 1 is 670 something/640.

Keep in mind that Kies dyno measures directly at the hub which mitigates loss so they typically read about 8-10% higher than if you were on a Dynojet where you have loss through the wheel/tires, and at 800whp that's 64-80whp.

Good numbers for both port and full E85, especially with how the TQ curve comes on with the Mosselman's.

Wow, that's making some jam! What did you end up doing for a rear tire to get the torque slippage under control?

Still stock 19s with Supersports. Can spin really at will but enough grip to.get the job done when I want. I was starting to spin up tire and wheel change ideas, but the F87 sale and G87 inbound has changed that.

Is it necessary to upgrade your fuel system, or can I run them on stock fuel system on maybe E30? If so do you know how much power that would make? Thanks

You can definitely run them.on stock fueling but of course improved fuel helps at every point. Impossible to guess what your results might be, but if you check my F87 build page (in the sig), you can see the progression of power over time.
