All Eight BMW M4 DTM Designs Unveiled

Update 3/31/14:

Budapest (HU), 31st March 2014. BMW Motorsport unveiled the designs for the remaining four BMW M4 DTMs at the start of the first official test of the DTM season, which takes place from Monday to Thursday at the Hungaroring (HU). Augusto Farfus (BR) will endeavour to follow on from the success he has enjoyed over the past two years with the Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM. Marco Wittmann (DE) will continue to race in the colours of his Premium Partner from 2013 and will line up for his second DTM season in the Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM. DTM rookie Maxime Martin (BE) drives the SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM in 2014. Red Bull is also on board as a new Premium Partner of BMW Motorsport and will be represented by DTM newcomer António Félix da Costa (PT) in the Red Bull BMW M4 DTM.

“I am now entering my third season together with my partner Castrol EDGE,” said Farfus. “The bright colours have been very lucky for me so far, and I hope I can represent them well again in 2014.” Farfus has won four DTM races together with Castrol EDGE, was named Rookie of the Year in 2012, and finished runner-up in the 2013 Drivers’ Championship.

Wittmann secured the “Rookie of the Year” title in 2013 and has his sights set on taking the next step in his DTM career this season. “That was a great first year in the DTM for me,” said Wittmann. “Hopefully we will see the Ice-Watch design at the front of the field more regularly this season. That is certainly my goal.”

The DTM is new territory for Martin – but not for his partner. Samsung and BMW Motorsport have been working together in the most popular touring car series in the world since 2012. “I know Samsung and BMW Motorsport have been good partners for a long time and want to do my bit to ensure that we all have good reason to celebrate together by achieving some great results,” said Martin.

Félix da Costa has already enjoyed a long-term partnership with Red Bull, which is set to continue in the DTM. “I am delighted to be able to race in Red Bull colours again this year, and that I can still count on their support in the DTM,” said Félix da Costa. “Red Bull has been associated with the ultimate success in motorsport for years, and I feel a part of this family. After my initial tests in the BMW M4 DTM, I am confident that I can also be successful for the combination of Red Bull and BMW Motorsport.”

A strong look: four of the eight BMW M4 DTM designs confirmed – Premium partners on board again in 2014

Munich (DE), 14th March 2014. Just a few weeks after its official launch, the new BMW M4 DTM [Official Details] now has three new looks. As well as the BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM, which Martin Tomczyk (DE) will drive in the 2014 season, the first images of the cars to be driven by Joey Hand (US), Bruno Spengler (CA) and Timo Glock (DE) have now been released.

Three of last year’s four driver/car pairings remain unchanged. Tomczyk will continue to take to the track in the iconic BMW Motorsport design for premium partner BMW M Performance Parts. “White with blue and red stripes: those are the classic BMW Motorsport colours. I am very proud to appear in this design for the third year in a row,” said the BMW Team Schnitzer driver.

As he did in 2012 and 2013, Spengler will be behind the wheel of the black BMW Bank M4 DTM. “I am delighted to still have my ‘Black Beast’,” said the Canadian. “I will always associate this look with winning the Drivers’ Championship in 2012. What’s more, I have a great relationship with BMW Bank. The ‘Drive like Bruno’ events that take place each season are just as much fun for me as they are for the participants.”

The colour yellow will again be closely associated with Timo Glock this DTM season. As in 2013, he will drive the DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM. “I have had a very good partnership with Deutsche Post for such a long time that I am obviously proud to appear in its colours again in 2014,” said the BMW Team MTEK driver, who won last year’s season finale in Hockenheim (DE).

Hand will take his place at the wheel of the Crowne Plaza Hotels BMW M4 DTM in the future. “Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and I have been very good partners since my time with BMW Team RLL in North America,” said the BMW Team RBM driver. “I really like the BMW M4 DTM in this new design. It looks quick, and my experience tells me that cars that look quick are quick.”

The 2014 designs of the remaining four BMW M4 DTMs, to be driven by Augusto Farfus (BR), António Félix da Costa (PT), Marco Wittmann (DE) and Maxime Martin (BE), will be unveiled for the first time at the official ITR tests in Budapest (HU, 31st March – 3rd April).

BMW Motorsport will present all eight racing cars for the 2014 DTM season at a presentation in BMW Welt in Munich (DE) on 25th April.

The 2014 DTM season starts on May 4, 2014 at Hockenheim.

Take out the double kidney grills and emblems and you would have no idea what car that was. True fact....

It's nice to know there's an M4 under there somewhere but the fact is that's a completely different animal.

I'm glad they don't come on the production car. It's true they illuminate faster and brighter, but I don't find them better looking. They always remind me of a hornets nest (all the holes for the LED's). To me the new "light bar" design like what is on the production car is nicer to look at and doesn't resemble an insect residence.

Wish there was a space gray and Dakar like yellow for the M4. Those DTM cars look amazing.

What this confirms is that the production 4 series headlights should have been darker. Personally I think they are far too bright, too much chrome/silver which contrasts badly with the black M-Performance kidney grills.

Same thing applies to the previous E92 M3 inspired DTM car. No difference.

The M3 is a sedan.
Basically what I said, that the M3 looks like a European taxi. Then a mod, Jason, whoever deleted my post while others are allowed to offer their opinions of the appearance of the M4...

I agree, the headlights are too bright, darker would've look better.

Just one example:

I wish prod had LED tail brake lights. Regular brake lights look cheap for such an expensive luxury car.

You know it's all a set up to make the LCI look so much more appealing, which it will be.

Because the bean counters want to project the image that somehow the M4 street car is somehow related to the M4 DTM, even though the M4 DTM is pretty much mechanically identical to the M3 DTM of yesteryear, as per DTM regulations.

I disagree. But regardless of subjective aesthetics & you will see with their LCI it will all of a sudden see an "upgrade" to "new & refreshed" LED tail lights. Pre-facelift gets run of the mill lights, "facelift" gets LEDs...BMW has been doing this since the E46.

Nowhere does it say that touring cars have to be 2 doors.
Mercedes raced with their C63 sedan prior to the release of the coupe, again to somehow project the image that the coupe is somehow more "race inspired".
The shell that they choose to put over the carbon monocoque chassis has nothing to do with 2 door or 4 door & everything to do with which production car the manufacturer wants it to bear resemblance to in public eye. Performance will be the same. Think RC car, whether you put a shell that looks like a 7-series or a shell that looks like a 2-series on that electric motor underneath will yield that same results. Same applies to DTM.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement. I HATE LED taillights.

It's not too far off from slapping a ford fusion logo on a nascar
