Yeah, that would piss off a lot of people if they called it the M4 and gave it a V-6. I don't think BMW would take that big of a risk.

Honestly, I think I'm in favor of M cars getting raw motors, balance be damned, and leaving the smooth and balanced engines for the non M cars. It's not like the E30 M3 had a balanced motor. |

way too simular to the current design if in fact this is the final look. So much for originality

Its only a rendering but I hope it looks nothing like that lol
Not too many styling cues that really set it apart and no power bump like on the E46 and E9x How different style wise will the new "M" variants be?

I think the power is about right. They cant up the the power too much or it will go after the M5. That has never happened. It will prob run similar times as the e60 m5.

That is just a lazy render. They just rendered on the headlight/hood/styled bumper and tailight and bumper. The profile is the same as e9x. The new M3 will look nothing close to that I am sure.
If it looks like this then I might bite

Wonder how accurate the performance estimates are... It sounds like stock for stock it will be less of an improvement over the e92 than the e92 had over the e46. But the M division is having to work with much stricter requirements with all the new emissions / mpg requirements coming out over the next 7 years than they did when they designed the e92.

I'm glad I ordered my 2012 and will most properly keep it for quite some time.

The new M5 is conservatively styled and not that different looking from the regular 5 series
Therefore, I see no reason why the M3 styling will be very different or much more aggressive from the new 3 series.

Are people seriously convinced that this is anywhere near final? It's a poor render that doesn't seem to take into account any of the design hints that Scott has been alluding to for months now.
Chill out.

I don't understand these artist renderings. It is baffling they are asking us to take this sh*t seriously. And this one is perhaps the worst ever. So let me get this straight - you take the current generation coupe, graft on the front end from the new sedan and you call *that* your next generation M3/M4 coupe? Yeah, because we all know that the E92 M3 looks exactly like - identically! - an E46 with an 2005 E90 325i front end stuck on. It's perfect deduction and an amazing formula for nailing down the looks of future BMWs! Genius! As for the engine, well, maybe it will be a 3L V6, but you don't have to be a genius to immediately point out the blatant flaws in their justification for it. A 3L I6 will clearly fit just fine in the F3x chassis, and furthermore we've had a twin turbo I6 in the engine bay of the E9x 3 series so there's not going to be fitment issues with a TT I6 in the new chassis either. Hey that doesn't mean they didn't have some other reasons for going with a V6 instead of the I6 that they have invested *100s of millions of dollars* in over the last three-plus decades. |
