The new Enhanced Bluetooth option includes at least one extra microphone that you don't get without the option. The M4 I test drove had the option and there was a microphone on the passenger side.

+1 ... I'm not an true audiophile either, just like clear, crisp, true sound ... but you are correct ... satellite radio is the worst. I have 4 radios on my account for my family members, and they all seem to love it ... I think the service is crap ... no commercials my ass! They play advertisements about themselves .. and you're paying for their service already ... it's no better than the broadcast radio with respect to music time v. commercials time ... plus as you said ... even the HD broadcast radio has a better sound quality.

I do feel the iTunes match service is well worth the $20 or $25/month ... and occasionally use the true COMMERCIAL FREE iTunes radio streaming via Bluetooth ... but the quality is noticeably lower than my FLAC music archive in my center console

I would assume the HK level system and below would not notice the disparity as greatly as with the B&O. My 2011 535xi had the top-end "Premium system" option at the time ... which i believe was good ... not great ... just not sure where that system fits in the current line-up for comparison. In fairness ... I did not even test out the HK system when ordering my '14 ... so I don't even have a point of reference. My point here is that in my '11 ... I used 320kbps MP3s and the system was good ... atleast good enough for me where I wasn't looking for something more. For those with the B&O option ... the system produces very true sound ... so MP3s don't cut it anymore ... atleast in my opinion.

I never noticed that ... I guess it may be possible that its something BMW does on a 4-series and below ... or just my lack of observation, and is not model-specific without the EBT option. I have coded many cars without the EBT option, and never noticed 1 less microphone. In fact, EBT was not an option back with the CIC systems, and BMW included 2 microphones ... so maybe something new since NBT was released in 2012?

I will have to pay more attention now going forward to see if this is in fact the case!

It's a new thing. It's mentioned earlier in the thread though. This post has a link to a PDF that fully explains the changes. I got the option, but I agree that is amounts to a $500 microphone for most people, since everything else can be coded, it seems.

Thanks for the info ... cheap bastards ... I have always liked the 2nd microphone in my cars ... atleast the other party rarely can tell i'm in the car ... unless I'm driving aggressively ... then the engine and exhaust sounds are hard to hide!

So txt msg show up on idrive screen is only possible with 6NS option even with coding?
I ordered the car with 6NS. I was gonna call my CA to cancel this order but i would like to see the txt on my screen?

Question for those w/enhanced bluetooh option. What have you noticed better/different?

I have that option but don't think that I'll be getting any benefit, unless i'm missing something. I plan on just plugging the phone via the wires. I could be wrong but I feel that wired is better than wireless.

The main thing is you get emails and text messages via idrive.
