M4 accidentally ordered without adaptive suspension
I have a problem with my build and I need someone to easy my mind, I went to my dealer to finalize my paper work for My M4 ED pick up on July 11 and while I was sitting with my sales person the numbers were not matching, mine numbers were higher than his come to find out he left out the Adaptive M suspension from my build. The problem is that today the car was already in the body shop and no changes can be made, I was not very happy with him specially that I have everything plan for my trip. He did told me that they can eat that car and order another one for me but it will not be ready for 3 to 4 months. My question is, do I really need the Adaptive Suspension what can or should I do about this problem.
And this is from the supposedly the #1 BMW dealer in the USA.

I drove an M4 without adaptive suspension. IMHO, it was great. Not too soft, not too hard. In other words, just right. I drove on the pretty shitty roads around Baltimore too. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how this compares with adaptive suspension on the M4. But I do have EDC on an E92 M3.
One thing you will notice is that there is a blank button where adaptive suspension button should go. I hope that's not enough to cause concern for you. If I were you I'd be bummed that I'm not getting exactly what I want and (thought I) ordered. But it wouldn't stop me from getting the chance to get the car that much sooner. However, if you're patient I'm sure the dealer will have no trouble finding a buyer for your order, so I wouldn't worry about getting back in line for another. Cheers.

I really went back and forth on This. I've driven an M3 with the static suspension and really enjoyed it. I got adaptive, but constantly question if i really needed it. I heard that the static is pretty much between sport and sport + of the adaptive and that sounds perfect. And its lighter.
Id probably ask for a bit off the price of the car and keep it.

Man that sucks. I think it would depend on your roads and whether you plan to use the car at the track. The passive suspension has received great reviews. If your roads are good and you are not planning to track the car frequently I wouldn't worry too much. If you decide to get another car and wait 3 mo hopefully the dealer will give you a better deal!
I had it worse with my first BMW, a 1999 528. I specifically bought that sedan because of all the cars I was considering it was the only one I could order with a manual transmission. You guessed it, 3 long months later it was delivered...with an automatic. I went ballistic. Fortunately the dealer was able to swap with another dealer for the essentially the car I ordered (actually got the upgraded stereo for free). I still get pissed thinking about that day, 15 years later! GL

Finally on "need" you don't really need a cushy suspension or an M3 if that. Most people need a reliable car, food, love and shelter. |

I wouldn't let it stop you from getting the car... as others have said, the passive suspension is very well done. The M3 I drove had it and I thought the ride was comfortable and not too rough but, at the same time, sporty and firm enough for hard use. A great balance IMO.

After driving the passive suspension I changed my order. Did not like the adaptive suspension in my e92 M3 and felt the passive was spot on in the f80.

I was traveling in France with some other guys and they got a recommendation about a great chef that had his own restaurant. The critics raved about his food. So we went to the restaurant. This guy spent years in French schools, working in top French restaurants, apprenticeships, etc to become a great chef and make culinary works of art. So after the long wait and this guy making this masterpiece, my buddy takes salt and pepper and adds it to the food without even tasting it. The fixed M Suspension is a 4 star meal where that BMW M engineers and test drivers refine on tracks and street to find the best possible blend of handling, firmness and rebound for the car. It is an engineering work of art. Dynamic suspension is the Costco one-size-fits-all frozen version IMHO.

Only had a brief drive in an M3 with std suspension, but it seemed great. Don't worry about it - you need that car while the weather is still good!

I found the base suspension a little firmer than my old E92 M3 coupe when I drove the new M3. Maybe a little firmer than I'd like for everyday driving, but the cornering was superb.

Just the opposite of everyone else. I drove a M4 with the standard suspension and came away thinking for just out tossing the car around and having fun it would be fine, but on long trips or days when you feel like crap and just want to get where you're going, it was just a bit more than I would want to deal with.

Have you driven a car with the passive suspension? Just curious if this is from what you have read or what you have experienced.

Get the dealer to cut you an extra deal for the mistake and enjoy the car!

Depends on your individual sensitivities. I drive an E92 with EDC & Dinan Stage 1 springs. The passive F80 I drove seemed firm, but just right to me. that being said, I have a dynamic suspension coming.
