In before the negative comments about the interior and the fact that "it's still a chevy"
This car is the best bang-for-your-buck from a performance perspective. But as a true sports car, it isn't a direct competitor to the M3/4. |

It's less of a competitor to the F80, but I think its a pretty close competitor of the F82. Especially in price. M4 I guess can still carry more than 1 other person, and some luggage...but how often is that happening for people who buy M4s? |

With some of the options you can get for a Z06 and not to mention it comes standard with 285mm front and 335mm rear tires, the new Z06 is the bargain performance car of the century. Although the M4 does offer more luxury, comfort, practicality, and utility, it will lose to the Z06 pretty bad on the race track. But then on the other side of the coin, living with the 2015 Z06 every day as say a daily driver is pretty impractical. Same argument goes between the GT-R and M5. I'd say that if one was super serious about tracking, then new 2015 Z06 is the way to go, but if you need a car for every day use than can still kick ass on the track once in a while, the M4 is the way to go. I'm highly impressed with the Performance Package though. I mean for only $7,995 you get Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Adjustable Aero, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. That's a ridiculously good bargain.

People can try to say it's not an M4 competitor all the want but at that price range IMO it is one. No back seats sure but I'm not a hobbit so none of my family can fit in the back of an M4 anyway.

Yep better performance value than the GTR I bet. I think it will be faster around the track, the GTR will probably still be the 0-60 and drag race winner. I'm pretty disappointed that it gained 200 lbs though, not sure where that weight all went. Either way this thing is an insane bargain for supercar performance.
That being said, I agree it's not a direct M4 competitor given it's performance will be in true supercar territory rather than "entry level supercar" territory M4 hangs around and it being designed as a pure sports car. It IS a competitor but not a direct competitor like the C63 and RS5. |

New Z06 starts under a loaded M4
Well this is interesting:
http://blog.caranddriver.com/how-muc...arts-at-78995/ I went to the Detroit Auto show last January to get a look at the new M4. The car that really took my breath away was the Z06 on display. In yellow. I know that some people cross shop these cars, but Id say most of us do not. The Corvette is a great car, just not sure how easy it is to DD. That being said, my M4 before ED discount came out to be over 79K. You telling me I can get a car that can honestly hang with the best supercars of our day for the same price? For the first time in my lifetime, Chevrolet has designed a car that I would buy. Im sticking to my M4, but Bravo to the guys in Detroit for building such a fantastic automobile.

my thoughts are
-the z06 base price is good, and its a great value for this type of car. its gotta be the sports car to beat right now -you optioned ridiculously and that's why your car costs 83k -the z06 with comparable options is still 15-20k more expensive than m3 -the zo6 requires 3lz pack to have comparable options to a nearly base model m3/4 (not that it needs a lot of options, but this is relevant to make a true comparison) Last edited by Black Gold; 08-22-2014 at 09:37 AM.. |

I think the z06 price point is right on. Will see what happens when its released and on the road.
For me the M4 is still a more practical car as its my only car, I would take a z06 in a heart beat if I had a decent (and much cheaper) daily driver.

but at 79k you added a lot of options that were tech related and had nothing to do with performance. if you wanted a car that was equipped comparable to a base z06, you cant even do it because the z06 comes with almost no options at all in base form. you have to get a 3lz package to get what the m4 comes with in base spec (except adding extended leather to the m4). EDIT : not exactly since 3lz adds leather dash. but you do have to add nav to the 2lz package to be comparably equipped. im not sure it makes sense to me to compare a loaded m4 with a bunch of stuff like led lights, executive package, drivers assistance, etc....to a car that doesn't come standard with any of that stuff. that said, for a sports car only, hard to argue against the z06, except for looks that is. With that pricing chevy won't be able to keep the car in stock. That means for the first year it will be hard to get one under 100k

any comparisons of the M4 and Z06 is just hubris on the part of the BMW owners/enthusiasts.
these cars should never be compared. price has nothing to do with their purposes. the Z06 is going to trounce just about everything out there for under $300k (maybe more). the GT-R will certainly have its advantages in some situations. will be interesting to sit back and watch. |
