How comfortable are the Competition Package seats?
Has anyone on here come from a standard M3/4 and then upgraded to the competition package? I'm looking at doing that but am concerned with how comfortable/supportive the new seats will be (and I don't think I'll be able to sit in one before I order). This is my daily driver and most weekends I make a 2.5 hour drive up to Austin. And along with that how do you all like it as a daily (if that's what you use it for).

I believe the only significant difference is not whether you have lumbar support or not, but that you will not have adjustable lumbar support. BMW understands the need for appropriate support for a sports car and I am confident that they spent some time getting the ZCP seats to be adequately supportive/comfortable. Just my 2 cents.

No hard review yet, but I'll have a write up along with pics soon.
I really don't think you can go wrong with the CP seats. If you really end up hating them, I'm sure someone on here will trade with you. It should be a direct swap too.

Awesome. I have an appointment to place my order in two weeks so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I figure worst case I can just get a lumbar support pillow. How is the ride during daily driving.

So the seat bottoms are identical to the non-ZCP cars. I'm pretty sure the seat back is too, just with the cutouts... The side bolsters are electronically adjustable, and after spending more than 3 hours in the car during one drive my back was fine.... Even though I'm young my lower back is extremely sensitive. I love the seats! Will probably keep a pillow or cushion for the long drives I'm known to do but for my hour commute one way I am quite pleased with the seats. |

You could always sell the OEM CP seats and get a nice set of Sparco or Recaro seats. Most likely what I'll end up doing with my Comp Pack M3.

Do you have kids? I ask because those cut outs would look like ample opportunity for my two rascals to punch dad in the kidney.

Probably an available space and weight issue involved there.

But I still think something could be made for these gaps using small (silent) computer type fans. Maybe when I get mine I'll have a play and see what I can construct. Maybe get my contacts to 3D print something to see if it really works. |

I've now put about 200 miles on my car and I still have yet to experience the slightest bit of discomfort. I'll also say that if you're unsure about the aesthetics of the CP seats, I honestly hardly notice the cut-outs with my black interior. They're low enough in the seat that they don't really stand out to me visually when I get into the car. I imagine it might be different with a SO or SS interior.

M4 ZCP Seats - My Wife HATES Them
I feared this before ordering this car, that the seats would be too hard and uncomfortable for my wife's liking. I'm coming from a 2008 550i, which had supremely comfortable 20-way sport seats, which my wife sometimes complained about, as well. Her biggest complaint was the side bolsters, which for her makes her sit with her arms pushed forward. She's very petite, so the seats are in some ways too large for her small stature.
As it is, I'm finding the seats 90% comfortable enough, but if I'm being honest with myself I find that I develop some discomfort along the lower half of my spine, but I find the seats otherwise really comfortable. Not sure why I have a problem with the spine of the seat, as it has plenty of cushion there. Anyway, the point of this thread is that the seats have a very low/unexceptable WAF. It's my car, and I get to have what I want, but twice a week we have to do a 1-hour drive together, and taking my car means her bitching for the entire drive. Her specific complaints in the M4 is again that the side bolsters are too large, pushing her arms forward uncomfortably, and the seat cushion hurts her tailbone. I'm thinking that the solution is to get her a seat and back cushion that will fill in the depth of the seat back, and soften the seat. The question is, short of having something custom made, does anyone have any recommendations for a high quality, comfortable seat/back cushion that would work well with the M4 seats?

You wouldn't have this problem if you had a big girl... they are really easy to find.
Seriously, you might need to have her add a pillow behind her back for this to work. |
