Top Tier Gas
Found this interesting. According to AAA, not all gas is the same:
http://newsroom.aaa.com/2016/07/aaa-...created-equal/ I've always used top tier gas but never saw any independent testing until this. |

Why do all the testing and show the results of top tier verses non top tier and then not provide what products were used for testing? The local Shell is going to differ from BP? What about my local Quick Trip?

All 3 of those bands are TT. I'm assuming they found little to no difference among top tier gas brands so that's why they just gave a blanket endorsement of any TT is better than all non-TT. |

I think a good test and the first independent test I have seen.
When you read the test it is mostly looking at intake valve deposits on a port injected engine. I wouldn't expect the same results on a direct injection engine as the fuel is not going past the intake valves and instead directly in into the combustion chamber and most cars built today are direct injected. When you buy gas at a non branded station, you may be getting any brand available as it frees up the owner to buy whatever is cheapest, sometimes this will be Top Tier, sometimes not. I work in the industry and station owners will look at fuel prices all through the day to decide on what to buy. As they said, nothing says a non Top Tier fuel won't have as high of additives as a Top Tier, just no guarantee they will. They also didn't pay for the certification. |

Not sure how accurate this study is. I buy fuel from my local Fred Meyer grocery store. It doesn't state that it is TT but the fuel is from Shell, who is TT

Most non branded fuels prefer to be non branded because it gives them the ability to buy it from the cheapest source. I am in the industry and fuel retailers will watch the prices all day in the hopes of saving a few cents per gallon on the next load. If Fred Meyer really is always Shell gas I am surprised they don't take advantage of this strong brand to sell more fuel. |

People look at me funny when pulling up with an M6 GC at Costco gas. But if you look up Costco gas, they are actually very good quality. http://independentmotorcars.com/2014...-gas-sure-not/ |

My belief is that "top tier" or octane rating don't matter in our cars as much as the poor quality, inefficient, additives (Ethanol, MTBE, etc.) that all the corrupt politicians have legislated into our fuel. 100% pure gasoline is higher in energy and more efficient than Gasohol (10% Ethanol) and E85 (85% Ethanol), resulting in increased engine power and MPG. Try searching http://pure-gas.org for a gas station that sells Ethanol-free gas near you. That said, unleaded Ethanol-free gas is difficult to find where I live.
