There is a great stretch of new autobahn that runs by Koln, 3 lanes wide each way, you can open it up top speed.

I was riding that stretch about a month ago and I caught up to a motorcycle in the left lane, he moved over and decided to push it up. We rode together going 260+ KPH for about 20 minutes. It was awesome and he gave me a thumbs up when he got off at an exit.

Sounds good. That was a nice long high speed run ! Do you remember the A-bahn number? We are headed to Koln tomorrow.

I had my 1200 mile service done yesterday at Lange BMW/Mini dealership near our friends' farm (they sell lots of M-machines). So, with that done I was ready to unleash our F80. BTW, for those keeping track, that basic service is expensive! 299 Euro for oil/filter change for engine and rear axle ! My boys and I attempted a high speed run this a.m. between Dortmund and Kassel on the A44 but traffic was too heavy. So we got up to 241KPH (150 MPH), indicated, on a lesser Abahn (445). Much fun with minimal drama. Sport setting on all sytems.

We are back on US soil, sitting in Chicago UA lounge. We clocked 160 MPH a couple of time on A1 heading to Hamburg - the wife won't let me go any faster as the traffic was pretty heavy on the 3-lane Autobahn, and I got a bit white knuckled.

Sehr SCHNELL!!! Hopefully you got that out of your system. I find that the 1st few days that I am back on U.S. roads that I am in some sort of time warp where everything seems (actually is) going by SO slow!!!!! . Ah yes, but you have your ED memories to tide you over till the next time!!

Throttling back a bit with a change in mode of transportation and taking part in a local tradition with our German friends. This forty year old John Deere got us up into the mountains surrounding the village where we stay in the Sauerland. We were fortunate that the blau beeren (local blue berries) were in season. We picked a bunch of these and used them to flavor our pfannekuchen (pan cakes) - boy are they tasty?

The view from the mountains down into the village where we stay. The church has a baptismal font that dates from the 9th century.

I hope you picked the bike. Summertime is nice in Europe for biking around.
Also, 299 for a service is not bad, I paid 400 for the same service in Munchen Nederlassung dealership.

Anyway, thank for sharing pics and showing the other side Europe we don't normally get to see. Btw, your pictures are top notch, I'm guessing you're using a proper DSLR setup?

Of course you are right. Bikes are EVERYWHERE and are an integral part of German life. I was in Cologne today and the bike paths and bike street lights are truly made from a bicyclist's perspective. Many, many use them to get to/from work, get groceries (many Germans go to the "market" daily for fresh food), for exercise, etc. Thanks for the photo compliment. Most of my photos are taken with a Nikon 5000 DSLR. A few years old but takes really nice shots with minimal fuss.

Headed down to Frankfurt Flughafen today to drop off the boys and one of their girl friends for their journey back to the good ol' USA.

These are the proper provisions for effectively cleaning your windshield. Why can't U.S.A. gas stations consistently provide these tools? Yes the soapy water was fresh and the blade on the squeegee was crisp. The coarse sponge is a good spot treater prior to the squeegee. What a difference this makes when you are hauling the mail and slaughtering little flying critters with your windshield!!
