M4 GTS use on track

So I did some initial research on track day insurance in USA. I think it will cost around 1000$ + to insure this car for track days. This is where this car will be most fun. But sounding like a rather hearty amount every time. Any thoughts.

Your options are:
1, don't track it
2, track it with insurance
3, track it without insurance

I am not willing to take the risk of taking it on track without insurance and I don't want to pay up $1000-1500 for one track day. So I am just going to enjoy it on the street.

I paid about $350 for $75k of coverage on our previous M4 about a year ago. This was per event so could cover 2-3 days, depending on the event. So I guess it could be more expensive to cover replacement cost. I'm not sure I'd go that far. I am going to selectively track my Gts with insurance but in the sub $500 range per event. This seems reasonable to me.
Car is at dealer waiting for PDI for pickup tomorrow

That looks like a reasonable option. Still expensive but more flexible.

Thx. I'm at the airport flying back into the country tomorrow. Been tracking it from the PDC since last week and glad I'm getting home no later than the car will be ready.

I just did a 3 Day HPDE at COTA. Track insurance from Locton was $870 with 15% deductible.

Two key things to consider:

1) Track insurance covers both your car and damage to the track. Guard rails, air walls, etc are expensive.

2) Make sure you cover the full value of your car. Partial value brings in a host of insurance laws that could cost you your car!

If you use the PSC2's allow for another $1k for front tires for the first Hard day of the weekend.

This thing NEEDS Hoosiers (or ?)
Anyone know where to find a set of 10" fronts and 11" rears wheels in 19"?

Surprisingly, 18" x 11" fit rear with 315's but the front is trouble because of the Really Big brakes.

This is correct on the front tire wear but it is not Hoosiers that will fix the problem (actually will make if worse). Car needs more front camber (even for MPSC2), then Hoosiers are a possibility.BBS FI-R come in 19" fitment. Problem is, no one has a solution to the camber issue yet.

Yes, Camber is critical, for now, all I can do is flip the tires after each weekend.

Very surprising stuff from someone who was always about function over form and chiding others about not "knowing what the car was about" or telling them "the car wasn't for them". Guess you have the ultimate track inspired street car? Big wang!

I have already enjoyed my GTS all over Europe on the Autobahn hitting top speed of over 300kmh and also driven it hard on a few of the best mountain passes like San Bernardino and Fuela Pass with endless switchbacks, fast corners and crazy elevation changes. I am going to say that I have taken the GTS very close to its limits many times, and BMW M did a great job with the car.

For the record, I have never told anyone that the car wasn't for them when they say that they wont track it. Yes, I do have the ultimate track inspired street car to enjoy on the street.

Top speed wise. The speed limiter is set at 305kmh, so I think I have hit its limit.

As for the mountain passes. I've taken it to its limits where I feel safe and comfortable with. I did the same route last year in my m3 and I can say I was much more comfortable and confident in driving the gts into the switchbacks and fast corners ar higher speeds.

I have been to track couple of times in Europe before but I have never tracked a car here in US including my M4. Since I got my M4, I have noticed that I'm much more inclined to drive it very aggressively on public roads. Almost everyone recommends that I take it to the track and it will calm me down on public roads. While it sounds pretty convincing, I still can't justify the cost of a track day. Entrance fee is about $300-$400 depending on the event, track insurance $400-500 for my ZCP etc and it already sums up to ~$800. So here is my question (not M4 GTS specific): How much does a track day cost on average? I mean, I'm mostly interested in the track prep part that is required both before and after the event as in replacing brake pads, fluid etc . I know that the total cost might depend on the car, shop etc. but I'm just trying to get an idea from experienced people

Most track weekends will require that you have high performance bake fluid in your car that has been changed in the past 6 months. I recommend that you have track pads as well. I do the work myself. Fluid costs $10. Hawk performance pads on my e36M3 run around $200 for the set. I imagine more for an M4 but probably not a lot more. They will last multiple weekends. Many drivers use their street tires for their first events. Tires have to have a reasonable amount of tread. Most operations will pair you with an instructor for your first events which is included in the price of the event. The only other expense is you have to have a current helmet. All in all you might spend up to $1000 but the majority of that investment is usable for future events.

The problem for me is that I don't have the garage space to work on my car. I mean I have a garage but I live in a apartment complex so very limited space. Even if I somehow find the space to do it, it would still be not easy for me probably since I have never done it before. Maybe I should watch some DIY videos

I have tracked my daily driver on BMW driving school events. Didn't have to work on car between evens. But warranty and service plans usually took care of brakes and fluids. So it only cost me the registration fees which was in 200$ to 300$ range. That was 135i. Was fun but not sure I can do the same with gts.
