Drive Responsibly - Another M3 Totaled

Seems like there's been more news of ///M cars in accidents. Just a reminder...drive responsibly folks. This one was in Philly - Kelly Drive. If you're from the area you'll know that the windy roads can be tempting, but it's tight and visibility is poor at spots.

Hope the driver is okay (passenger seems to have walked away fine), but that doesn't excuse the excessively spirited driving (if true, as reported). Apparently, there was another person in the car with them, but they were unable to locate them.

The fact the driver asked about a third person - which may not have existed - kinda shows he was concerned. I hope the driver recovers quickly and fully.

I wonder how old the driver is. I've seen so many threads on another site where parents want to buy their kids Ms for their first car. Seriously?!?!? Just because you could, doesn't mean you should. It's amazing they are alive looking at the wreckage.

In a lot of countries in europe its almost impossible to insure a car like this if the owner is younger than 25 and if so, very expensive.

Is that the same in the US?

Expensive, yes. Impossible, no. I bought my M3 at 22 and the insurance didn't break the bank.

Look theres spirited driving and then theres idiocy
this has to be idiocy if you have any chance of going airborne and going up an embankment?
the guy clearly has no track experience and yet is using our public roadways as a track.. this was no remote out of the way road even tho at 2am someone could have been on it esp a windy road
luckily no other car was involved..

Wet leaves can be as slippery as ice. Good to remind yourself of that this time of year.

he was out to impress his buddy at 2am thinking noone was going to be around and use Kelly drive as a track
meanwhile Kelly drive has intersections and walkways its not exactly a freeway
and dsc off to show off his "skillz"

Nowhere near impossible to insure a 20 year old with an M3 in the US. It's very possible, and happens all-the-time. Yeah it's expensive (probably several thousand dollars a year), but not prohibitively expensive for many folks here.

Lot of professional racers crash on the road:

Mike Hawthorn
Clay Regazonni
Lewis Hamilton

But your right this guy probably had no track experience.

That's an M5. Check the picture of the front brakes

Still sad, glad the driver is OK

I would prob bet this “kid” was driving a M3 registered to Dad insured by Dad. He is just listed as a driver, even tho he drives it regularly. That’s usually how most register/insure these types of cars for their children.

As for his driving, any number of idiotic adjectives can be used here. But this is my favorite.....You can’t fix stupid

I considered, for a hot second, getting a M2 instead of a M240i and had I gone that route, I pretty much considered getting the M driving school option as being mandatory in my mind.

Exactly.

There is no way you can crash a car that bad with traction control on.

Kudos, it would have been extra responsible for you to do driving school. I would still recommend performance school for anyone even if they're driving a Prius. Most people do not have a solid grasp of driving dynamics and, basically, physics.

However, plenty of people drive M cars with no extra training and don't crash them. There's a difference between spirited driving and stupid driving.

Lol I love how people think this was some 20 year old spoiled kid without the article stating that anywhere.

Plenty of crusty white dudes running over curbs because of PSI issues and running innocent people over in their mustangs. BUT LETS BLAME DEM YOUNG PEOPLLLLEER.

I wondered this too. Even re-read the article to see if some mention was made of the driver's age.

I think posters saw 2am, had passengers, single vehicle crash due to speed....

It's a tempting stereotype to invoke

Concerned? More like disorientated or drunk.

It was a 2am crash. Not to assume anything but I wouldn't be shocked if there was a little more to this story.
