AFE Drop in Filter?

Does anybody have any experience with the Afe dry drop in filter? Been reading mostly about K&N and BMC but somebody mentioned afe and really liked them. Haven't been able to find much besides that. Can anyone else chime in?

No experience with Afe but I use BMC and really like the build quality.

If Porsche runs them as OEM in their GT3RS stock, it's good enough for me

Great! I've also been reading about people losing low end torque with switching filters? Have you experienced that? Kinda confused on that situation.

I honestly couldn't tell a difference. If you remove the charcoal liner above the air box top and add BMC filters, peak gain is around 6-8 whp.

I have a competition package car so it likes to rev out before it really picks up speed (calibrated in the zcp tune).

If there was any torque loss, it likely won't be felt.

My N54 makes 500 wtq and runs comical looking cone intakes. It's all about the torque curve of the tune and removing air flow restriction at peak boost to make peak power throughout the rev range.

Ah, gotcha. I have a comp pack as well with the 6MT. People have said you can feel the torque loss a lot worse with the 6MT but still think I want to give it a try. Also what exactly do you mean by it likes to rev out before picking up speed?

I usually drop 2-3 gears before getting on it and flooring it until 6000 rpm or so. Although I do most of my freeway passing in 5th or 6th gear (I'm DCT).

The M3 ZCP feels a bit lazier down low compared to the earlier base F8X models due to the change in the tune. You need to hit a certain rpm before it gets moving, otherwise I feel like I'm lugging the engine if trying to pass in too high of a gear.

I have K&N filters now. I did a baseline dyno on my stock ZCP and will go back to do another pull. I don't feel like it's lost any torque or power.

Found a dyno comparison video thanks to EAS.

Looks like BMC filters gained 5 whp peak and lost 4 ft/lb peak.
