I can't imagine a BMW (or any manufacturer) not performing the repair on a recalled item, especially something related to safety . The liability would be tremendous and their ability to keep the marquee would be jeopardized. To answer your question, I suppose you could ask the dealership to see the old part. There is no visually distinguishable difference between the old and new part. So I'm not sure it would be beneficial to pull the heat shields to inspect the new drive shaft. |

1. The dealer already lied to me regarding the condition of the car. I've lodged a formal complaint with BMWNA, and have been considering seeking legal advice. - That will be another thread. 2. The recall repair was done at the start of January. Pretty early compared with everyone else here?? The recall was probably done, but what type of driveshaft was installed?? I'm only 400 miles away from the 1200 mile service so perhaps I get the local (different) dealer to verify it is a CF driveshaft - unless I can find some time to check myself. |

Definitely need to details on this. Didn’t you end up buying a brand new one with a full warranty?

As I suspected, Unlike everyone else (so far), my car had an aluminum driveshaft installed - Thanks Santa Monica BMW!!!. Current dealer is saying it's supposed to be aluminum? Time to call BMWNA.

Mine was finally done late last week. The (new) drive shaft is carbon fiber. Although the recall notice says the work takes about an hour, the installation took a little longer than that. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up by early afternoon the same day.

I can see the wing on the picture. I don’t see anything wrong with it personally. Need it if you track it.

My 17 F80 was done with the same part as the OP and confirmed with the tech installing it that the new part was indeed carbon fibre.
