Massive M3 Spin at SMSP GP Track
Just did the inaugral BMW vs Porsche supersprint at Sydney Motor Sport Park SMSP GP circuit which was a bit washed out but some good times in the morning.
The fastest BMW was an M3 GTR 1:36.62 and there was a very nice M4 GTS that posted a 1:38.80, and a modified 2014 M4 did a very respectable 1:39:08. The fastest M2 was a 2016 model posting a 1:46:01, and an M2 CS did a 1:46:31, also great times. Fastest M3 was a 2018, looked to be slightly modded and did a 1.47.09 Nice to see some of these exotic cars on the track. I had a bit of fun chasing a F80 M3 which ended in a spectacular spin out of turn 1 which catches a lot of people out. I know the driver wanted to see the spin so thought I'd post it here in case he is around, see at 2:20. Last edited by donR; 06-22-2021 at 05:20 AM.. |

First outing for new M2 CS at Winton today:
- Track had hardly any rubber, we've had shitloads of rain and no race meetings (lockdown) so track was very slick - First time running the CS after 2000km run-in service - Michelin Super Sports (Should've got Cup 2s) PB for the day 1:35:5450 http://racing.natsoft.com.au/6385290....83i/Result?15 Pretty happy with that for a first outing on a slick track. Car completely stock and manual box. Reckon there's a mid-to-low 34 in it on the right day. I was 5th outright for the day on aggregate times (best standing & flying laps together, not bad for a car on road tyres!) |

donR Fastest M2C did a 42.7 Was garaged next to him. From memory, the car had basic upgrades such as some sort of tune, 1-way suspension (likely Ohlins/Bilstein) with some camber wrapped in well used RE71RS. The M2CS is a Radical Australia Cup regular at the pointy end of the field. That car is completely standard off the showroom floor basically. Both cars are a good indication/benchmark of what they can do. While conditions play a big part, the biggest variable is the driver.
The F80 above killed one of my session 2 laps, lol. Pretty fortunate to get away with it. Looked like just a bent / broken toe arm and rear bumper blemish. Only Shannons/Famous offer track insurance. Usually the premium is sky high, and has pretty poor terms such as limited cover (ie. up to 10k). Build up to it, learn the fundamentals, consider coaching, respect the track/car limits and your own limits. I see most people that get in trouble tend to straight away slap on tunes, high performance tyres or R-comps then send it. Couple that with approaching T1 incorrectly such as the video above, and it can get ugly very quick.

1M. I'd like to do another day there before the unfavourable whether sets in. Likely Sept/October. It's a shame most days there for casual attendees are untimed!

Yeah, mainly solo timing out at SMSP GP. Nice driving in the 1M by the way. 1.45.29 is very good even with the mods. Looked a little twitchy though.

Did track day at Tailem bend today.
International circuit M3 pure, Alex alpine stage 2 tune Ferodo ds 1.11 pads plus cooling. Pilot sport 4s tires. My video app recorded a 2:14.5 and matched the mylaps transponder time. I was really consistent this time with many low 2.15 laps just sometimes had traffic Great day out with a small group at the bend. I've improved a lot of last time I came here 2 years ago, much more comfortable in the car and lots of practice on the sim machine helps a lot, the sim does a really good job of representing the track. I've heard sims are a good idea, which one are you using? Seems like you need quite a bit of space to set them up. |

https://www.thebend.com.au/racetrack-circuit-simulation I use Aseetto Corsa for The bend and also Sandown (Sandown not an official release, the track is ok just surrounds not perfect like other tracks). Assetto corsa is very mod friendly, so you can find all sort of tracks and cars to download on the net. I’ve even got a phase 3 GT, EB GT, HSV GTS. Possibly the physics on the downloaded stuff isn’t perfect but still bit of fun. IRacing is really good too, only official tracks and cars available. I have Phillip Island and Bathurst on there. I’ve got Fanatec Clubsport gear on my sim rig, with a vibrator under the seat and pedals for feel. Vibrators make a huge difference in emersion. I’m handy with fabrication so I’ve done a bit of custom work on my seat frame to make it compact and portable but still rigid. Rigidity is the key with any sim rig. I use an M4 on the sim, I think on the sim I carry a tiny bit more corner speed but bit less power than real life on straights. After my first time at the bend 2 years ago my best was 2.22 then the digital version was available, I could only manage similar times on the pc until I learnt the track better. Sim driving is actually harder, car moves around more and harder to balance, you’re missing a lot of the feel you get driving. With the practice, this time at the track I knew every corner perfectly. My best PC time is 2.12 but constantly hit 2.13-.15’s . To get within 2 seconds of that on street tires I thought I did pretty well. Also my lap times were within a second of each other this time. bloke79 Still much quicker than me, his 2.11 was epic, better tires would help towards that but he was driving really well! My kids get on and have a go too, my son can go under 2 min at Bathurst in F1 car (his fav). He’s 10 in a couple days and because of the sim practice he can drive my ranger ute around the farm quite well. My fav sim car is Ferrari 488 GT3, best feel and great speed for sim racing. |

managed to get a handy little 1.06.3 around wakefield park ..Mar 15
Nothing much done to it other than - Pagid RS29 Pads - Braided Steel Lines - Upgraded Brembo HT64 Brake Fluids - stage 1 tune. Sadly the lap was done during an untimed session however have video proof of lap with a proper external GPS Timer Last edited by Robbyjai; 09-28-2021 at 06:34 PM.. |

im running Bridgestone RE71RS.... the best track\road combo you can get... the tires are road legal.. drive to the track flog them and come home... these tires are 1 second quicker than Cup2s like for like set up with only tire differences so yeh these tires are great! as for tune... they are great... but once you tune up... you really HAVE to upgrade to better brake pads, lines tires etc, the power upgrade really starts to exceed the limit of the oem tires and brakes... |

Yes Collie Long track is much more challenging than Barbagello, there will be a new track opening in Albany in the next 2-3 yrs as well.

Here's something slightly off topic...
Just picked up a GR Yaris Rallye recently, first run at Winton with 1500km on the clock. PB for the day 1:38.3, 2 seconds off my PB in 2016 M2 manual. Not bad for a 50k hatchback. Went through half the stock rear pads so will be replacing those ASAP hehe. |
