What Rivet Tool did you guys use?

I tried to use the one I had but didn’t have the rivet tip big enough for the ones provided.

I bought the rivet kit from HF - someone else recommended this.

Anyone know the part numbers for the poly rivets that come with the splitter kit? The flanges on the OE rivets are larger than those that come with the HF rivet gun. I’d like to use the same rivets for my side skirt install

Someone posted earlier in the thread that they are:

6mm rivet part #: 51777171004

I never verified but try that.

Use self tapping screws for side skirts. They hold up better.

I actually had my buddy mdefalco25 go through the installation yesterday on his new M3. When I did this initially while following the BMW instructions it took me roughly 8 hours to complete. mdefalco25 was able to get this done in just under 2 1/2 hours with this guide and a helping hand.

Im keeping this as a PDF so that you can download the guide and print it out if need be. Click here:

KHATTI's DIY for M Performance Splitter and Lip Install

BMW OEM M Performance Instructions

If anyone would like to contribute to this (if I missed something or want to add more detail) just let me know and I will update it.

Good luck to those of you who want to DIY this!
Man, just wanted to tell you that I appreciate you for this DIY... my 9 year old and I made some slight modifications to the instructions but this was spot on. We didnt see the clips and rectangular piece of metal mentioned in your write up, and ended up utilizing them for more support. We also ended up modifying the cutting method for the splash guards. All in all probably took about 5-6 hours of work, but ultimately provided a priceless bonding moment for me and my son.

Thanks

Great diy, i just got my lip and might attempt to install it myself. I have a rivet gun but not sure its the right size. But looks good on your car. How has it held up? Ive heard its bomb proof as far as lips go.

What is everyone's solution for sourcing the hardware only? Piece by piece? I see the serial numbers listed in the pdf.

Glad it helped. My lip held up great. No problems at all throughout my ownership. I sold my F80 last year but the lip stayed on to the new owner. Looks great and love the color!

Has anybody tried to install this splitter without the carbon bumper covers? https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1...f80-m3-f82-m4/

It looks like the carbon pieces cover the attachment tabs of the support and lip cover, which would be otherwise visible when looking down on the lip.

Answer to myself. Without the carbon onlays, the lip will look like crap when looking at up close. This is because the the joining plastic tabs will be quite visible. The tabs are supposed to be covered by the carbon onlays.

yupp, i found out the hard way myself. i didnt even think this was going to be an issue or that you needed the carbon splitters too. i'll probably just cover it with matte/satin black vinyl for now. what did you end up doing?

Yesterday I forgot to activate my front axel lift and this happened. I can't be too upset since this one lasted 20k miles in NYC plus a few off track excursions.

Before I start shopping for a new lip do you guys think this can be repaired/reattached?

Thank you in advance.

Remove. Prep surfaces. Fill with JB Weld and sand smooth. Drill counterbore. Reinstall

I bought the M Perf Lip used and it didn't have the templates. Are they necessary to do this install? If not, what do I need to be careful with without having the templates?

Bumping this. Great thread. Looks like Turner has a full kit. Anyone install this and is everything included?
