Quoted nearly $7k for crank hub replacement??

I asked a reputable BMW indy shop for a quote and it was about $5,200, which I thought was already on the high side. But it seems the quote didn't include the price of the aftermarket crank hub. I was planning to go with SSR, so that's an additional $1k if I am not mistaken.

I found a thread here from a few years back and it seems most of the posters had it done for around $4k or less, including parts and labor.
I don't know if this is outdated info..

Is it just me or is this price very high?
Anyone here from the Atlanta area who can recommend a good shop that may have a more reasonable price?

Edit - My math may have been a bit off getting to 7k. But it is still in the mid 6k range including parts, which still seems high to me.

It’s all relative, depending on a bunch of factors, but that pricing seems objectively crazy high. For example, Studio RSR charges $1750 for their same day service.

This is nuts.. I could ship the car across the country and get it done there and still probably save a few bucks...

I may use this to show some more local shops while shopping around.
Thanks for the info.

I paid less than 2k GBP for the Insane Crankhub supply, fit, install, which is far better than the MMR one.

Price is nuts. Tell them to stuff it.

Yep. And that price includes the actual crankhub too.

I'm not too far from you and I'm looking to have mine done, if you don't mind saying, what shop did you use? Also how long ago was this?

It's priced high because they don't want to do it for you for some reason. They are just saying to you go find another place.

Maybe I missed it but where are you located other than ‘southeast’? I’m in NC. Shops in the state hover around $3,700-4k out the door. Shops that did enough of them that I trust to do mine that is.

Seems like a lot of people go to A&A Performance in Atlanta area and they seem to do a good job. Last year they quoted me $3890 total for the 4-pin crank hub install.

I was quoted around $4,200 here in Jersey. Only shop I inquired on a lark.
Probably just go with with a capture plate and hope I'm in the majority of non slip owners.

If you’re in NY, Florida, or Texas, S5x Performance is going to be traveling there and doing crankhubs.

They charge $2k for a 4-pin crankhub and have done 100s… probably more than any shop out there.

I have no affiliation with them but just wanted to share and help yall save some money.

Includes
  • S5X Performance 4 Pin Crank Hub
  • Valve Cover Gasket
  • Front Main Seal
  • Cam Gear Bolts
  • Crank Bolt
  • Oil Pump Tensioner front cap/Seal
  • Oil Pump Sprocket
  • Oil/vacuum Pump Chain Guide
  • 5W40 Motul Xcess 6.5 Liters of oil
  • MANN OEM Equivalent Oil Fllter
  • Full Coolant Flush
  • NGK 97506 Spark Plugs
  • Installation

I have 2 friends, one in NC and one in SC, who want to get their CH's done too. Seems to be quite a few F8x drivers in the area.

Yea, it’s a pretty dam good deal. I haven’t done mine but if I do I’m definitely going to them.

If they made a stop in NC I'd probably pull the trigger for $2k.

There's a reputatable shop in Raleigh and they are about 3600. Charlotte area is around 5000.

Edit: I reached out to them about a stop in Charlotte. Easy airport to fly in and out of if they bring equipment. It would be great to have others contact them to show interest.

About $3200. They'll also give you a discount on installation of turbos if you do it at the same time. This is where I'll get mine done if I get it done. They seem very knowledgeable and plenty of recommendations.
