BSM gets my vote, but it's so subjective only you can decide. I think SS shows the lines better and will hide dirt better. Other than that I like BSM better in every other possible way.
Take my advice with a grain of salt because SS is my least favorite standard color. Judging by the forum community, I am well in the minority. Maybe I'm just odd.

I've never really liked SSII on any coupe... Not sure why but I think it looks fantastic on the sedan (I had an SSII e92 that I drove for 4+ years and it still looked great when I traded it in). I would go SSII on the F80 and BS on the F82.

I tried to change to SS at the last minute but my car had started production that morning. Its a truly unique M color. Subtle, classy and sporty. The black while a beautiful color is... well Black. Not very unique.
SS gets my vote.

Obviously SSII.
- Color changes depending on lighting (I happen to really like the lunar blue undertone) - Really shows off the lines - Not a lot of them around, but everyone comments on how much they like the color at meets. Warning: the bumper material under the paint is black, therefore any rock dings on the bumper will be black. Definitely get a clear-bra on at least the front bumper (even if it's a lease, because you'll have to live with a growing number of black dots).

SS is amazing in person. Hard to take good pictures of. Black looks very aggressive, but not very unique. SS was my top choice until the very last minute, I went with YMB.
** 08/05/2015 I stumbled across this post again and wanted to mention that I eventually ordered SS No other color looked like that in person.

Here's another question that I just thought of this morning. "If you could get an E30 or E36 M3 right now, would you get it in Black or Silver?" The question is relevant to me because I plan on keeping the F80 that long. The answer I came up with is that I'd rather have a black E30 or E36 M3.
Sorry for dragging this thread on. |

I'm in a similar situation but SS vs SO. Lots of threads on this. It appears that the very least, people like SS as their 2nd option.
For me, I like the Silver more but at the same time with this being an M car, I want a loud color. What a problem to have |

While SS is a great color, it unfortunately ends up being unappreciated and becomes another gray BMW. But that is my perspective and absolutely irrelevant. The right answer can only be addressed by your gut. You ultimately are the one that has to live with it everyday, and your initial instinct/gut reaction is the right choice whatever that is. Any second guessing you may have is a result of questioning what others may think. Go with your gut, there is no way that you can fail if you do. It's the safe play, no matter how dangerous it may appear to be to others.

Silverstone for many reasons but the top 3 would be because it shows the lines of the car WAY better than black ever will, it's WAY easier to keep clean for a longer duration of time (same goes with damages on black cars that show up extremely easily) and it'll stay a LOT cooler in the summertime as opposed to a black vehicle.

Either one looks great. Just make sure you get the Black 19" wheels whichever route you go!

For the F80, SS since it contrasts better with the CF roof and shows off the lines much better than black. I'd also be a nervous wreck about swirl marks and dings on a black M3. |
