Fed-ex just delivered my woofers! Look really nice, but since I've never seen the stock woofers I have nothing to compare them too. Unfortunately I do not have the time until Monday to get them installed.

looks aside, lets hope they sound better. I'm still not overly impressed with the stage 1 upgrade. I think the biggest problem we are looking at it is the HK amp.
Lets hope someone address's that problem. K |

I got mine FedEx today and wasted no time installing them. Took me about 45 minutes. Super easy install. Make sure you have a big set of torx drivers on you to get the seats loose. On my F26 X4 the carpeted "opening" that the sub enclosure comes out of seems smaller than what we see in the video, so removing the hex bolts seemed a bit more challenging than expected, but not much of a showstopper. The Bavsound woofers look a lot more like real speakers than the factory contraptions. They're less protected though, so be careful when reinstalling those bolts.
There's definitely a significant improvement. The very first thing that happened once I put the car together and played some music is that I heard a rattling, I thought something might have been loose. The problem was that my keys were sitting on my passenger seat. I've done that countless times before but they never rattled before! The biggest improvement is they go a long way towards cleaning up the muddy, soggy sound of the factory speakers. The sound is a lot richer and more defined. You'll really feel certain songs resonate up the seats in a way they never did before. I have the Stage1 upgrade also and this is a good complement to it. They also appear to "dig" a lot deeper into the upper sub-bass frequencies that were missing. I have a 10" JL sub in my car also, configured to play only very deep bass (EQ set to boost 30hz to compensate for the HK subsonic filter). I still wanted the Bavsound woofers because I knew there were problems with what the underseat woofers were doing, and I was having a tough time adjusting around it. Once installed the Bavsound, I was able to lower the JL's level quite a bit. Everything is just so much smoother. I still think there's a little bit of missing "punch", but it's much better now. This might be an artifact of the "ported" enclosure they sit in or just the placement in general. At least without an external amplifier/EQ they won't take the place of a more elaborate subwoofer, but it's a big step in the right direction. This isn't too surprising, we know the HK amp has a subsonic filter that cuts out the deeper frequencies. The technic harness that I have installed gives me the option to use an external amplifier for the underseat subs. Since I already have most of the plumbing in place to do it, I'll probably try hooking another amp up to them to see what they're really capable of! I doubt I'll be removing my JL completely though. I'm not sure I'd call it "jaw dropping bass response" as the Bavsound advertising indicates, but I'm happy I bought them. Last edited by djrobx; 12-18-2015 at 01:37 AM.. |

Great info and I am getting similar results. I would also add that we may get more "punch" as the sub woofers loosen up and break in. Adjusting the eq of bass control beyond what Bavsound recommends may also help. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

For sure, I'm still playing with the settings to figure out where I want them too. Unfortunately HK gives us so little control over bass, for the most part you've only got a 100hz slider and "bass", and the difference between those two is subtle. If I connect an external amp, the signal will also pass through my inline EQ, which has 30hz, 60hz and 125hz adjustments, plus gain, not to mention the crossover which will let me properly divide the sound between the under-seat and JL subs. If I go that route, I get lot more ways to dial in their performance.

Just got an "oopsie" email from Bavsound. It turns out the subs shipped without a necessary gasket to fully seal the woofer. I recommend everyone wait to install their subs until this part arrives. As for those of us who already installed, we'll have to do the job all over again.

The good news is that if they sounded good before for those of you that installed them already...this fix should make them sound even better.

After watching the gasket installation video, I'm convinced this gasket isn't needed on my car (F26 X4 HK). Mine had a factory gasket in the enclosure itself, and the factory woofers that were removed had none. Very different from what you see in their example, which has an obvious gasket attached to the factory sub, and clearly needs to have gasket material added.
I will however gladly accept the $15 Amazon gift card for the stress of worrying about this. The thought of having to re-do everything bummed me out this afternoon. On a brighter note, I've had more time to listen to different material. On some songs the difference from the factory sub is very striking. They're definitely providing a lot of quality sound that was missing before. I think the key is that because that muddy, junky quality is gone, they can be set louder to good effect (as seen by the EQ settings they suggested in the recent email). It also seems like I can play a wider variety of music without needing to adjust the bass controls to have it sound good. My current verdict is that they work better than expected. djrobx Good to know. Just watched the videos myself and hoping for even more improvement.
Hoping it comes today so I can take care of it this weekend. Edit that as the email went out yesterday. Likely won't have it until Monday at the earliest.

I received the email about two hours after I installed the new subs. Pretty painless install. I tightened one of the sub grill torx screw too tight and it snapped odd leaving the lower portion inside the sub enclosure. At least installing the new gasket will allow me to attempt removing the broken torx screw.

I would expect everyone to get the gasket tomorrow if they ordered early enough on Friday. Wednesday at the latest.
