Default M DDC settings at startup

I've tried to find this in the manual, but being a man I guess I'm not very good at reading them.

Anyway, is there a way to set the "default" modes when the car starts? My car always starts with engine mapping in efficient and suspension and steering in sport, gearbox in the softest setting. Is it possible to change these default settings? I thought that the car would remember whatever setting you had last the next time you turned on the car but apparently not?

IIRC, it "defaults" to efficient, sport susp, and softest setting (If with the non-adaptive susp) I believe. My advice is to program M1 for what you want daily and M2 for when you want to have fun. All that can be done from the iDrive.

Thanks, thought there would be a way to set the defaults. I already programmed the m1 and m2 buttons, but I'm not too sure my wife can / will remember to press m1 for comfort. She things the steering is too heavy in sport...

I do too I like sport the best for regular driving. Can't wait to try both at the track. Might prefer the heavier steering there.

The defaults are the softest settings for everything and can't be configured. This is how it's supposed to work, anyway.

So the car is starting up with the steering in Sport mode? That's interesting if true. I believe GOLFFRR mentioned something about his starting in Sport engine mode if he had it set to that mode when it was turned off.

Strange behavior. Would you mind playing with it a bit and reporting back? Try setting different parameters to different settings and seeing which ones, if any, are remembered after turning the car off and restarting. Thanks - we appreciate it.

The car starts up with the Adaptive Suspension and Steering in Sport Mode and the engine in Efficient Mode.

I may have been mistaken bc the last two times I drove the car including this morning the car did start up in efficient, sport, sport so maybe I was just seeing things but I would have swore that the car was starting in sport the first few times I drove the car.

Either way I have gotten use to just clicking a few buttons and putting the settings the way I want but def think that coding this feature out will be the way to go for those of you who don't want to deal with the few extra steps. I did however reset my memory setting the other day so maybe If I put the car in sport and save the memory setting while the car is in that mode it will start in that mode, ill try it this afternoon when I head home. I do know that the car wont start in sport plus no matter what you do.

I'd love to find a solution on how to change the defaults - I've had a really good play now and can't get it to do anything else but default to:

Engine: Efficient
Suspension/Chassis: Sport
Steering: Sport
Transmission: D1

Thanks for the info, I'll have to update my thread on the topic. And I'll have recheck the manual too since I think it contradicts this.

So it starts with those settings regardless of where they are set when the engine is turned off, and regardless of whether you set them to other values using the MDDC buttons next to the shifter or the M buttons on the wheel, correct?

Correct - Regardless of how you leave it when you switch it off, it always starts as follows:

Engine: Efficient
Suspension/Chassis: Sport
Steering: Sport
Transmission: D1

Well, that is one thing I like better on the E92. IIRC, the transmission stayed where you left it... i.e. Manual mode, say S3. I liked that the transmission didn't default to D. Oh, well.

That's correct...what ever setting you have, if you turn the car completely off then the drive settings reset to default. The only thing that is remembered is the Start-Stop button in D mode.

Same also for me. I d like to start from basic in default and level up with M1 and M2. There must be a way to change this.

I wish it were key dependent and could just remember whatever setting you wanted.

At least the engine auto start/stop will default to last user mode from the factory. So, maybe the dealer can program these other modes prior to taking delivery.

Hey guys, a bit of a n00b question as I picked up my M4 last Sat. I can't seem to get the default dynamic driving settings to stick.

I'm looking to have three modes. One when I turn on the car (that's different than the one that seems to be sticking), then ones for M1 and M2.

Are the defaults tied to the seat memory? Something else?

Thanks!

I don't have my car yet, but I believe when you start the car, it always go back to the default settings. They don't stick between starts. What stick is what you set in M1 and M2 buttons.

BTW JPBesl, would you please click the link below to go to the options and packages survey thread and submit a survey entry to the survey for your new car? Thanks.

Is not this codable i.e. what default settings are set on startup - thought I recalled Pillpusher mentioning this but maybe I got it wrong?

Agreed - surprised these defaults aren't configurable. Mine is set for Efficient throttle, and Sport for the other settings, resetting back to this each time the car is turned on. This is surprising as defaults, as I would have expected the factory to set to Comfort as defaults.

Really would love to be able to set this. My wife rarely drives the car, but would love to have it setup as efficient and comfort across the board for her by default. I'm happy to hit the M buttons to turn on something more aggressive when I'm driving.
