Only M3?
Edit: The M4 was hidden too well. Sorry for being an idiot again.

GT3 aspirations?
In all seriousness, I'm very skeptical of this claim.

No way...
If true, get your shit together, BMW. What's next, more subframe failures? Here is a thread by someone who was supposedly affected (AND got his car keyed, life is a real bitch sometimes). http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...ne+replacement! |

I recently completed European Delivery of an early November build date M4, and she is currently on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic on her way home. It looks like there is only one report of this issue so far, so I am not entirely freaking out yet, but if my new car needs a new engine with only 300 miles on the odometer...
That said, I will not allow myself to freak out until there is more evidence that this is a real issue. |

My M4 is supposed to arrive at the port on the 21'st. I have a call into the service dept to check if this is real issue and if so see if my VIN is affected.

I'm sorry but I don't buy this. No offense to the poster, I don't buy the dealership account.
A dealership reached out to a very particular person with a notification that a batch of pins - no doubt manufactured long before since the guy had taken delivery of the car - were too short. How exactly did they determine that a batch of pins manufactured likely >3 months prior were too short? We don't know, but it's possible that type of retroactive QC was found. And too short is a major and easily identifiable design issue. I'm guessing that if the dealerships understanding is accurate that this will impact a very small number of vehicles, that those owners are being contacted right now, and that this is no big deal to the vast majority of owners.

Just got a call back from the service dept. They advised that my VIN (Nov 14 production date) is clear as far as this alleged issue. Furthermore, he advised they have not received any bulletin regarding M82 engine recall.

I don't know if this rumor is true or not, but the "sky is falling, sky is falling" mentality that permiates the forum is really amazing. Someone can come on here and make a negative statement and half the forum immdiately contemplates selling their F8X. Truly amazing!!!

What''s the big deal if it's a full engine swap? I wouldn;t like to have my engine disected into pieces and parts replaced but a full swap? No problem with that. Oh wait, I guess it means to have to go through break-in again...
