M4 GTS as an Investment?
I'm going to invest in some limited edition car. I think the 991 GT3 was built around 2000-3500 copies. And M4 GTS only goes around 700, which is 1/3 of gt3. I am considering ordering two as inventory. Do you guys think M4 GTS is collectable? I can't find any reselling price of 2011 M3 GTS as reference. Thanks for all opinions.

I think that all depends on if the purported CSL models start rolling out. The 'ring time and performance of the GTS is undeniable, but perhaps the small amount of produced is what is driving the cost.
If I were going to invest, I would want to be sure that other comparable models were sure not to be released as not to dilute the desirability of the GTS. Rumor has it there will be CSL models of all coupe M's. If the GTS is a gap-car to carry us into the era of more extreme M's, I would be uber pissed off if I stretched for the GTS only to see cars as desirable for less money, even if they are produced in slightly higher numbers. That is why I pulled my deposit on the GTS yesterday. That, and I do not think I could swing the price if it's coming in over $100k.

I can't see how the 991 GT3 will go up in value since the 991.2 GT3 and the next gen GT3 will be basically the same recipe. I think the 997 GT3/RS is a safer bet. But then again, Porsche might bring back the manual for the 992 GT3 and then the 997 is no longer any special except for the Metzger engine.
There's an M3 GTS for sale in Sweden for 1.5mil SEK ($185k) with 1200miles on the clock which is right around what it sold for new. Buying new, non-hyper cars for investment purposes is both risky and unpredictable so I would actually advise against it. |

If it were to become a collector item, which I am highly doubtful, by the time it is worth it you won't be alive to enjoy the money, or alive but unable to do so. Well, maybe your kids will enjoy it for you.
However, if you own one, you can enjoy it immediately well beyond what any investment would! my 2cents to you for free. |

CSLs are the more investment grade 'modern' BMWs along with the Z8 and 1M----both of which have proven themselves as appreciating in value in a short time. the GTS has very low production numbers so it will be desirable however its appeal is also limited, IMO, so I'm not sure about how it's values will actually change over time.
I agree with others here though that these cars are meant to be driven, not gawked at and have their prices monitored. If their prices go up they go up----but I don't think that should be the primary reason for owning one by any means. |

Pretty sure he knows that... However, the ROI would be completely garbage.
Investing $100K+(x2) easy and having to wait probably ten plus years is definitely a waste. I'm pretty sure there are other endeavors you could pursue with that type of money with a much quicker and larger ROI.

I would buy one GTS now and drive it sparingly. Wait to see what becomes of the CSL and if it does come out. If it does then buy that one too. You'll then have two very collectable cars. Worst case is sell off the GTS if the CSL turns out to be the more collectable one.

There is no way you will be able to get one unless you can pull some strings, 300 only coming to the US! Spoke to the area manager yesterday, these are not going to be available unless u pay somebody well over sticker.

Try getting a GT3 RS - the previous gen 4.0 if you can swing it. 991 RS too only if you can get in the first wave, meaning buy from dealer.
These could bring you an easy $100k in just a few years. The GTS is unknown. I'd only buy an original M1 as the only BMW investment, nothing else. 1M is worthless as investment IMO.
