Request: Silverstone F80 moonroof v carbon fiber... FIGHT!!
I think I've narrowed down my F80 color choice to Silverstone with Sakhir Orange interior with the Silver 437 M, but I am torn on the moonroof. I like how the CF roof looks, but I do enjoy the moonroof once and awhile. Who has the moonroof? Regret it? Who has a CF roof? Regret it?
Post some pics if you have an option! I do have one question: Does the CF roof actually make the car lighter, or is it entirely cosmetic?

As for cf roof vs moonroof - cf roof all the way! The double bubble carbon top is one of the defining features of this car imo |

I too was torn on this decision. I got my dealer's last allotment for my M3 order in February and had to make my build decisions very quickly. I had moonroof and tried to change to CF roof, but it was too late. I'm kicking myself! I do very much enjoy my moonroof and plan to wrap the roof in gloss black.
I would love to see some pics of a gloss black wrapped SS M3.

If you want full performance (and what these cars are built for), go with the CF. If you want spirited road driving and retain structural integrity, while the wind blows over your head, go with the MR. Keep in mind the MR will weigh a little more (est, 30-40lbs) than the CF roof. But you really can't go wrong either way.

That said, i would go with real CF roof though... I come from an E46 with MR. I thought I was going to miss it big time... Especially in the summer time. The one thing that not many realize is that with CF roof you will not be able to mount a roof rack in the future. The rack rails are fake on CF roofs... Its missing the inner hardware for the bolt-on BMW rack system. It never made sense to me why they did that. That's the one thing i wished they kept on the CF roof cuz im an avid cyclist and wished i have the ability to add a bike rack if i ever need to... So Just keep that in mind. But damn... My CF roof looks so damn awesome with SS2 that i dont regret my decision what so ever. I have a clear Xpel Ultimate on my roof and Xpel Stealth on the body. That contrast in color and sheen is absolutely stunning!

I guess I'm in the minority then. I wanted the moonroof on my Silverstone F80. It's my daily driver and whenever it's not raining/snowing and the weather is above 60, it's usually open. I have a black interior and I find with the sunshade pulled back, the interior is brightened up a bit. Besides, I can't fully realize the weight savings and lower cg with the CF roof since the car is more capable than the driver's skills.

I originally ordered my F80 with the moonroof as I loved it on my 328. However when I realized the roof was CF I changed and don't regret it at all. It is lighter but don't believe you'd notice on the street. However looking at the car it really makes it stand out. Also at 6'2" the extra headroom is nice.

I have not seen this mentioned, but yes CF roof is lighter than moonroof. Also more headroom if you are tall like me. Resale value will be higher if you go by the excitement of older sunroof delete BMWs and Porsches and finally, the CF roof is what has generated the most compliments for me at gas stations

The contrast on a light color car really makes the car with CF roof.
The only color I'd consider getting a moonroof is BSM.
