Whats out there that will give me a standard Video/Audio input to my factory idrive 6
I'm looking into all of the options and I'm more confused now than before.
I've looked at bimmertech which has a wireless miracast option but I'm not looking for wireless. Is there anything out there that will simply give me a video/audio input into the factory screen? I'm thinking the bimmertech MMI (without the smart view flex) will give me the video input, but not sure if it will have an audio input? I dont want to loose factory bluetooth for times when I want to just stream music or use my phone for phone calls. |

So here is what I dont get. Bimmer-tech says I need the SmartView IN ADDITION to the MMI.
But why? I just watched this video showing the installation in an F30. In the video, the MMI has an HDMI input. An HDMI input is all I'm looking for. From here, I can easily get an HDMI output cable from my phone and plug it into the HDMI input on the MMI... can't I? What does the smart view add other than the ability to cast video wirelessly? |

On my Lexus, there was a 3.5mm jack that included video (think old camcorder plugs) and all ya had to do was click A/V on the nav screen. I used a converter that turned the RCA connection into HDMI and plugged that into the phone. Bingo, anything on the phone screen showed up and played through the car's screen and stereo. I dont want to stream wirelessly. I just want to plug into my phone's video output and let it mirror on the screen whats being shown on the phone. So what I'm seeing here is that it should work. What am I missing? |

I would guess that they are not selling the MMI module as a stand-alone unit. Either you have to get the MMI with the rear view camera kit or with their SmartView unit.
