Possible HPFP issues on S55
I am in the process of trying to self diagnose a fuel psi issue that may be leading in the direction of a HPFP Failure.
Has anyone else had the pleasures of this happening on the S55 platform? I know there has been a horrible reputation in the past with BMW's HPFP, but thought it was fixed with the F8x line up? To address those who feel they will need to put in their un-welcomed .02 ---- yes the car is under warranty and no I cannot currently take it to the dealer or they will find out I am a secret agent!!! LOL

Curious to know as well. Are you running e85? What is your hpfp psi?

I had a HPFP failure in November. Started my F80 and got a "fuel system malfunction" message. But the car drove fine. Took it to the dealer and the tech said the HPFP was not "performing to spec". Took two weeks to get a part into the dealer and they replaced it. I never noticed any issues in driving, but I did lose a track weekend waiting for the part since I didn't trust the pump after the message and the notes from the tech. Car has a little over 25K miles. I have no tunes or engine mods.

Not sure how to check it.... I'm getting what seems to be forced misfires codes. There is a constant reoccurrence of fuel rail pressure too low before ignition.

Since you have ISTA, what does calculate test plan provide in terms of ABL to run, it's probably a big list. You can also check using "ecu control functions" the diagnostic tab to trigger various components and /or read various stats.

I already replaced the frps with no luck! That's why she's about to be off to the dealer.... What's puzzling is the misfires, why would the DME force misfires because of too low fuel psi? At this point I also have raw fuel at both outer exhaust tips.

It's super weird..... I should hopefully be getting it to a point to take it in to the dealer. I will certainly update as this unfolds.

Just to clarify... In my case I got the "Fuel system malfunction" message on the iDrive as soon as the car started. And the associated yellow icons on the dash. Once I drove the car about two blocks, all the messages turned off and the iDrive status screen was all green again.
You never got any kind of message on the iDrive or lights on the dash? Is the tune messing with your computer or something? |

As for tune, the don't think so. About two weeks leading up to this I was feeling a lumpy idle. I think it was a warning sign.

Might want to try this (based on Bend Calibrations HPFP/injector maintenance guide): https://www.hotshotsecret.com/gasoline-extreme-12-oz/
