I was driving home at night after work when all of the sudden a furry rodent runs right in front of my car. I heard a loud clunking noise and the first thought in my head was the oil cooler. I pull over right away and came to find my front lip absolutely obliterated, but I didn't notice any oil leaking out. I drive home carefully while watching my oil temp and I didn't notice any significant fluctuation. I jack my car up and found my oil cooler bent up into the bumper. What's crazy is I was about to order the oil skid plate but hesitated. Now I have to buy a new oil cooler and a skid plate I hope this post persuades those who are on the fence about ordering the skid plate.
Edit: I forgot to mention the damage to the oil cooler was from the OEM plastic getting crushed and folding in itself from the impact.

One of the first things I did too. Too many stories about people smashing their coolers from debris or dips.

Going through the same pain. Just picked up a '15 F80….36k miles.

It seems street construction crews felt it was ok to leave large pieces of broken asphalt in the middle of driving lanes. Impact was unavoidable due to traffic conditions…

Still waiting to hear back from my Indy, but assume oil cooler is toast.

Filing a claim with the city and/or my auto insurance if it is worth it and makes sense.

Ordered the Turner skid plate yesterday…Memorial Day sale!

Good on you to have the mind to pull over right away even though it looks like the oil cooler still functioned. But now that it's bent, maybe you can upgrade to a Mishimoto or something else along with the cooler guard.

Yup! Just purchased the mishimoto oil cooler as well as the wrinkle black turner skid plate. What's surprising to me is that the stock oil cooler is almost the same price as the mishimoto. Parts came out to about $1100 sadly without install/labor : lesson learned!

Turner makes one as well as fall line. The pros/cons of each are well documented on some dedicated threads.
