Let me test the waters here. I had stalked/followed a local M3 about five years ago. Told the woman if she ever wants to sell it, to contact me. Well, Friday she did. Details are it is a 1988 dark charcoal black. 78,000 miles, the material on the sunroof isn't great, and a bulb for the on board computer is out. She is the second owner after the first had it as a lease for two years. So anyone interested and what do you think the real pricing should be? She doesn't want to leave money on the table, either, so don't say $4,000.

Okay you guys, calm down! First, none of you are helping with pricing.
The car is in Connecticut/East Coast. I haven't seen it in a few years so I don't know the actual condition, but it sounds pretty good from her description. Due to her schedule and mine, we won't get together until September and I'm back from the SCCA Tirerack Pro Solo Finale and Solo Nationals. I'll do a walk around, get pics, and take it for a drive. Disclaimers will apply: I'm not a technician/mechanic nor do I play one on TV. I will keep y'all in the loop.

I have seen this car, it is in excellent condition. The store hosts our monthly cars and coffee, owner is great, sells a lot of top quality german cars in our community and has a great reputation. One of our local BMWCCA chapter officers drove the car here from Seattle when the dealer acquired it and has told me it was perfect. I am sure he could ship the car to Cali.

All: I saw and visited the 1988 M3 today. It indeed has 78,000 miles. It is that silver gray color. It drove well. It has a few door dings. The seat bolsters have a little wear. The sunroof inside fabric hangs a little in the front.
The bulb in the OBC is out, and there is a slight rattle from the shifter linkage at high revs. The car is the real deal: unmolested/unchanged. The owner bought it from the local dealer after it came off lease from the first owner in April 1991. She's had a local shop where it has been serviced make a nice offer. I can send pics (I took a bunch). Now is the time to step up and make an offer. Contact me here or mattm "at" optonline "dot" for pics or questions or offers. To whet your whistles, a pic with my car nose to nose.

Kind of curious why are you posting here? A few of us 1m folks have owned e30m3s but this definitely isn't the best place to search. What condition are you looking for and what kind of money are you prepared to spend? I definitely wouldn't limit my search to SoCal. Spending $1k on a plane ticket and trip back could save you thousands or more likely give you the ability to find the exact car you want. If you have specific questions ask away. I just love talking e30m3s For the best forum on all things e30m3 go to: http://www.s14.net/forums/ Last edited by robertm; 09-18-2012 at 11:19 AM.. |
