Lightbulb First good look at 2016 F80 M3 LCI prototypes

First good look at 2016 F80 M3 LCI prototype

COMMENTS

We've shown you plenty of F30 3 Series LCI (facelift) photos, and here's the first good look at the 2016 F80 M3 LCI.

As expected and as the camouflage indicates, the only major exterior change will be the new LED tail lights, as seen on the 3 series LCI prototypes. While the F30 3 Series LCI model will additionally receive a nip/tuck for its front end, the F80 M3 shares the M4's front styling, and if history holds (from the previous E9x M3 generation), neither the M3 nor M4 will get a revised front end during their lifetimes. A new wheel option - 20" style 666M will be available for the M3 LCI.

As for technology, the 2016 M3 will receive an upgraded iDrive system. Whether this entails a minor upgrade with updated software (featuring over-the-air NAV update capabilities and an online entertainment center), or a more significant overhaul to the touchscreen system coming in the G11/G12 7 Series, remains to be seen. Our bet is on the former.

A competition package (ZCP) is also expected to be available sometime during the 2016 (U.S.) model year. No specifics yet on what the package entails.

This confirms what most have speculated thus far. F80 LCI = New tail lights.

Thanks for the info

You'll have to wait for the F32/F82 LCI for that

I still just don't get how there are people out there that would wait an entire year to get a car they want simply b/c the tail lights "might" be different. Looks like they will be, but I could care less and glad I've been enjoying my F80 for the past 9 months.

Kind of odd that they have the wheel name/code but no visual reference as to the style of rim...

Its nice to see some less camoflauged pictures, thanks Jason. LED light, not a huge deal.

The competition pack "sometime during model year 2016" is what intrigues me. I would think they'd have it available as soon as orders start, well I hope at least. =)

For the record I'm not holding out purchasing just for the ZCP, my purchasing plan just happens to line up with a 2016 model. I'd jump on a 2015 if the opportunity/right deal came about over the next few months.

A few things:

1. Looks like LED tail lights can be retrofitted if desired

2. There is no way in my mind that the f8x nav screen will be touchscreen, simply due to ergonomics. The placement of the screen vs. seating vs. steering wheel is not conducive to reaching forward and touching the screen with a relaxed arm/hand and without leaning your body forward. Or, put another way, they may make it touch screen but it doesn't mean ergonomically it's going to be a success on a day to day basis.

Drizz I think it's a combination of factors.

-They refuse to buy the first model year of any car
-Some peoples' buying time frame puts them at the tail end of the current model year
-Some don't like how BMW uses LED tail lights to justify LCI and wait on principle
-Others just want all the possible latest tech an LCI will give them

I fit into category 2, but went for the better deal of a 2015 and 2016 was coming too late for me to do ED.

LED tailights! Noooo! How did I not see that coming??? Why did I buy a first year model! IDIOT! I'm screwed! My car resale value just dropped 25% and my friends will think I'm poor! There goes my promotion!

Some people have plenty of cars to drive around, if waiting a few months more means getting the revised LED taillight it's a very tempting option. I have them on my X5 and it's just awesome. No one likes to buy a car only to look dated in such short time. 2016 also makes more sense for better resale value for people that buy the car outright.

As for retrofitting, it's hard to say and it would easily cost more than what should've been free in the first place. We aren't even sure it'll fit yet.

Glad you enjoying your ride though.

New taillights are fine, but zero regrets in not waiting.
